Prior to version 17.4.0, an authentication bypass vulnerability in oauthenticator allows an attacker with an unverified email address on an Auth0 tenant to login to JupyterHub. When email is used as the usrname_claim, this gives users control over their username and the possibility of account takeover. This issue has been patched in version 17.4.0.","cvss_v4":null,"cvss_v3":{"version":"3.1","vector":"CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:L/PR:L/UI:N/S:U/C:H/I:H/A:H","score":8.8},"cwes":["CWE-287","CWE-290"],"references":["https://github.com/jupyterhub/oauthenticator/commit/f0c7002dc36e41efae0f674033cf7888a21d96f9","https://github.com/jupyterhub/oauthenticator/releases/tag/17.4.0","https://github.com/jupyterhub/oauthenticator/security/advisories/GHSA-rrvg-cxh4-qhrv"],"products":["jupyter:oauthenticator"],"source":"nvd","synced_at":"2026-10-19T22:28:59.047572785+00:00"},"epss":{"cve":"CVE-2026-33175","score":0.00446,"percentile":0.38791,"date":"2026-10-31"},"kev":null,"osv":[{"id":"GHSA-rrvg-cxh4-qhrv","url":"https://osv.dev/vulnerability/GHSA-rrvg-cxh4-qhrv","summary":"Auth0OAuthenticator has an Authentication Bypass via Unverified Email Claims","modified":"2026-09-10T03:51:03.184847435Z","packages":[{"ecosystem":"PyPI","name":"oauthenticator","purl":"pkg:pypi/oauthenticator","ranges":["<17.4.0"],"fixed":["17.4.0"]}]},{"id":"PYSEC-2026-2238","url":"https://osv.dev/vulnerability/PYSEC-2026-2238","summary":"","modified":"2026-07-13T07:15:50.511399138Z","packages":[{"ecosystem":"PyPI","name":"oauthenticator","purl":"pkg:pypi/oauthenticator","ranges":["<17.4.0"],"fixed":["17.4.0"]}]}],"attribution":["This product uses the NVD API but is not endorsed or certified by the NVD.","EPSS scores: FIRST Exploit Prediction Scoring System, https://www.first.org/epss","Known exploited vulnerabilities: CISA Known Exploited Vulnerabilities Catalog, https://www.cisa.gov/known-exploited-vulnerabilities-catalog","Package advisories: OSV (https://osv.dev), from the GitHub Advisory Database, PyPA, Go, RustSec and other ecosystem databases, under CC-BY 4.0 or CC0","CVE records: the CVE Program's CVE List (https://www.cve.org), under its terms of use (https://www.cve.org/Legal/TermsOfUse).
