In versions on the 8.1 branch prior to 8.1.2.1, the debug exceptions page does not properly escape exception messages. A carefully crafted exception message could inject arbitrary HTML and JavaScript into the page, leading to XSS. This affects applications with detailed exception pages enabled (`config.consider_all_requests_local = true`), which is the default in development. Version 8.1.2.1 contains a patch.","cvss_v4":{"vector":"CVSS:4.0/AV:N/AC:L/AT:N/PR:N/UI:P/VC:N/VI:N/VA:N/SC:L/SI:L/SA:N/E:U","score":1.3},"cvss_v3":{"version":"3.1","vector":"CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:L/PR:N/UI:R/S:C/C:L/I:L/A:N","score":6.1},"cwes":["CWE-79"],"references":["https://github.com/rails/rails/commit/6752711c8c31d79ba50d13af6a6698a3b85415e0","https://github.com/rails/rails/releases/tag/v8.1.2.1","https://github.com/rails/rails/security/advisories/GHSA-pgm4-439c-5jp6"],"products":["rubyonrails:rails"],"source":"nvd","synced_at":"2026-10-19T22:26:19.218427112+00:00"},"epss":{"cve":"CVE-2026-33167","score":0.0026,"percentile":0.17801,"date":"2026-10-31"},"kev":null,"osv":[{"id":"GHSA-pgm4-439c-5jp6","url":"https://osv.dev/vulnerability/GHSA-pgm4-439c-5jp6","summary":"Rails has a possible XSS vulnerability in its Action Pack debug exceptions","modified":"2026-09-10T03:50:40.310151551Z","packages":[{"ecosystem":"RubyGems","name":"actionpack","purl":"pkg:gem/actionpack","ranges":[">=8.1.0 <8.1.2.1"],"fixed":["8.1.2.1"]}]}],"attribution":["This product uses the NVD API but is not endorsed or certified by the NVD.","EPSS scores: FIRST Exploit Prediction Scoring System, https://www.first.org/epss","Known exploited vulnerabilities: CISA Known Exploited Vulnerabilities Catalog, https://www.cisa.gov/known-exploited-vulnerabilities-catalog","Package advisories: OSV (https://osv.dev), from the GitHub Advisory Database, PyPA, Go, RustSec and other ecosystem databases, under CC-BY 4.0 or CC0","CVE records: the CVE Program's CVE List (https://www.cve.org), under its terms of use (https://www.cve.org/Legal/TermsOfUse).
