{"cve":"CVE-2026-32829","nvd":{"published":"2026-03-20T01:15:56.277","modified":"2026-09-17T12:17:49.007","status":"Modified","description":"lz4_flex is a pure Rust implementation of LZ4 compression/decompression. In versions 0.11.5 and below, and 0.12.0, decompressing invalid LZ4 data can leak sensitive information from uninitialized memory or from previous decompression operations. The library fails to properly validate offset values during LZ4 \"match copy operations,\" allowing out-of-bounds reads from the output buffer. The block-based API functions (`decompress_into`, `decompress_into_with_dict`, and others when `safe-decode` is disabled) are affected, while all frame APIs are unaffected. The impact is potential exposure of sensitive data and secrets through crafted or malformed LZ4 input. This issue has been fixed in versions 0.11.6 and 0.12.1.","cvss_v4":{"vector":"CVSS:4.0/AV:N/AC:L/AT:P/PR:N/UI:N/VC:H/VI:N/VA:N/SC:N/SI:N/SA:N","score":8.2},"cvss_v3":{"version":"3.1","vector":"CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:L/PR:N/UI:N/S:U/C:H/I:N/A:N","score":7.5},"cwes":["CWE-201","CWE-823"],"references":["https://github.com/PSeitz/lz4_flex/commit/055502ee5d297ecd6bf448ac91c055c7f6df9b6d","https://github.com/PSeitz/lz4_flex/security/advisories/GHSA-vvp9-7p8x-rfvv","https://rustsec.org/advisories/RUSTSEC-2026-0041.html","https://access.redhat.com/errata/RHSA-2026:11800","https://access.redhat.com/errata/RHSA-2026:16354"],"products":["pseitz:lz4_flex"],"source":"nvd","synced_at":"2026-10-19T22:26:19.218427112+00:00"},"epss":{"cve":"CVE-2026-32829","score":0.00619,"percentile":0.49679,"date":"2026-10-31"},"kev":null,"osv":[{"id":"GHSA-vvp9-7p8x-rfvv","url":"https://osv.dev/vulnerability/GHSA-vvp9-7p8x-rfvv","summary":"lz4_flex's decompression can leak information from uninitialized memory or reused output buffer","modified":"2026-09-10T03:50:41.314710760Z","packages":[{"ecosystem":"crates.io","name":"lz4_flex","purl":"pkg:cargo/lz4_flex","ranges":["<0.11.6"],"fixed":["0.11.6"]},{"ecosystem":"crates.io","name":"lz4_flex","purl":"pkg:cargo/lz4_flex","ranges":[">=0.12.0 <0.12.1"],"fixed":["0.12.1"]}]},{"id":"RUSTSEC-2026-0041","url":"https://osv.dev/vulnerability/RUSTSEC-2026-0041","summary":"Decompressing invalid data can leak information from uninitialized memory or reused output buffer","modified":"2026-03-17T16:15:16.060046Z","packages":[{"ecosystem":"crates.io","name":"lz4_flex","purl":"pkg:cargo/lz4_flex","ranges":[">=0.0.0-0 <0.11.6",">=0.12.0 <0.12.1"],"fixed":["0.11.6","0.12.1"]}]}],"attribution":["This product uses the NVD API but is not endorsed or certified by the NVD.","EPSS scores: FIRST Exploit Prediction Scoring System, https://www.first.org/epss","Known exploited vulnerabilities: CISA Known Exploited Vulnerabilities Catalog, https://www.cisa.gov/known-exploited-vulnerabilities-catalog","Package advisories: OSV (https://osv.dev), from the GitHub Advisory Database, PyPA, Go, RustSec and other ecosystem databases, under CC-BY 4.0 or CC0","CVE records: the CVE Program's CVE List (https://www.cve.org), under its terms of use (https://www.cve.org/Legal/TermsOfUse).
