{"cve":"CVE-2026-32630","nvd":{"published":"2026-03-16T14:19:40.593","modified":"2026-06-17T10:36:07.973","status":"Analyzed","description":"file-type detects the file type of a file, stream, or data. From 20.0.0 to 21.3.1, a crafted ZIP file can trigger excessive memory growth during type detection in file-type when using fileTypeFromBuffer(), fileTypeFromBlob(), or fileTypeFromFile(). The ZIP inflate output limit is enforced for stream-based detection, but not for known-size inputs. As a result, a small compressed ZIP can cause file-type to inflate and process a much larger payload while probing ZIP-based formats such as OOXML. This vulnerability is fixed in 21.3.2.","cvss_v4":null,"cvss_v3":{"version":"3.1","vector":"CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:L/PR:N/UI:N/S:U/C:N/I:N/A:L","score":5.3},"cwes":["CWE-409"],"references":["https://github.com/sindresorhus/file-type/commit/399b0f156063f5aeb1c124a7fd61028f3ea7c124","https://github.com/sindresorhus/file-type/security/advisories/GHSA-j47w-4g3g-c36v","https://github.com/sindresorhus/file-type/security/advisories/GHSA-j47w-4g3g-c36v"],"products":["sindresorhus:file-type"],"source":"nvd","synced_at":"2026-10-19T22:26:19.218427112+00:00"},"epss":{"cve":"CVE-2026-32630","score":0.00318,"percentile":0.24721,"date":"2026-10-31"},"kev":null,"osv":[{"id":"GHSA-j47w-4g3g-c36v","url":"https://osv.dev/vulnerability/GHSA-j47w-4g3g-c36v","summary":"file-type: ZIP Decompression Bomb DoS via [Content_Types].xml entry","modified":"2026-09-10T03:50:39.741974661Z","packages":[{"ecosystem":"npm","name":"file-type","purl":"pkg:npm/file-type","ranges":[">=20.0.0 <21.3.2"],"fixed":["21.3.2"]}]}],"attribution":["This product uses the NVD API but is not endorsed or certified by the NVD.","EPSS scores: FIRST Exploit Prediction Scoring System, https://www.first.org/epss","Known exploited vulnerabilities: CISA Known Exploited Vulnerabilities Catalog, https://www.cisa.gov/known-exploited-vulnerabilities-catalog","Package advisories: OSV (https://osv.dev), from the GitHub Advisory Database, PyPA, Go, RustSec and other ecosystem databases, under CC-BY 4.0 or CC0","CVE records: the CVE Program's CVE List (https://www.cve.org), under its terms of use (https://www.cve.org/Legal/TermsOfUse).
