Prior to 2.12.0, PyJWT does not validate the crit (Critical) Header Parameter defined in RFC 7515 §4.1.11. When a JWS token contains a crit array listing extensions that PyJWT does not understand, the library accepts the token instead of rejecting it. This violates the MUST requirement in the RFC. This vulnerability is fixed in 2.12.0.","cvss_v4":null,"cvss_v3":{"version":"3.1","vector":"CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:L/PR:N/UI:N/S:U/C:N/I:H/A:N","score":7.5},"cwes":["CWE-345","CWE-863","CWE-347"],"references":["https://github.com/jpadilla/pyjwt/security/advisories/GHSA-752w-5fwx-jx9f","https://lists.debian.org/debian-lts-announce/2026/05/msg00008.html","https://access.redhat.com/errata/RHSA-2026:10140","https://access.redhat.com/errata/RHSA-2026:10141","https://access.redhat.com/errata/RHSA-2026:10184"],"products":["pyjwt_project:pyjwt"],"source":"nvd","synced_at":"2026-10-19T22:25:53.701907451+00:00"},"epss":{"cve":"CVE-2026-32597","score":0.00279,"percentile":0.20451,"date":"2026-10-31"},"kev":null,"osv":[{"id":"GHSA-752w-5fwx-jx9f","url":"https://osv.dev/vulnerability/GHSA-752w-5fwx-jx9f","summary":"PyJWT accepts unknown `crit` header extensions","modified":"2026-09-10T03:50:59.993704484Z","packages":[{"ecosystem":"PyPI","name":"pyjwt","purl":"pkg:pypi/pyjwt","ranges":["<2.12.0"],"fixed":["2.12.0"]}]},{"id":"PYSEC-2026-120","url":"https://osv.dev/vulnerability/PYSEC-2026-120","summary":"","modified":"2026-05-20T09:19:15.426301Z","packages":[{"ecosystem":"PyPI","name":"pyjwt","purl":"pkg:pypi/pyjwt","ranges":["<2.12.0"],"fixed":["2.12.0"]}]}],"attribution":["This product uses the NVD API but is not endorsed or certified by the NVD.","EPSS scores: FIRST Exploit Prediction Scoring System, https://www.first.org/epss","Known exploited vulnerabilities: CISA Known Exploited Vulnerabilities Catalog, https://www.cisa.gov/known-exploited-vulnerabilities-catalog","Package advisories: OSV (https://osv.dev), from the GitHub Advisory Database, PyPA, Go, RustSec and other ecosystem databases, under CC-BY 4.0 or CC0","CVE records: the CVE Program's CVE List (https://www.cve.org), under its terms of use (https://www.cve.org/Legal/TermsOfUse).
