Starting in version 24.3.0 and prior to version 26.3.1, Black writes a cache file, the name of which is computed from various formatting options. The value of the --python-cell-magics option was placed in the filename without sanitization, which allowed an attacker who controls the value of this argument to write cache files to arbitrary file system locations. Fixed in Black 26.3.1.","cvss_v4":{"vector":"CVSS:4.0/AV:N/AC:L/AT:N/PR:N/UI:N/VC:N/VI:H/VA:N/SC:N/SI:N/SA:N","score":8.7},"cvss_v3":{"version":"3.1","vector":"CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:L/PR:N/UI:N/S:U/C:N/I:H/A:N","score":7.5},"cwes":["CWE-22"],"references":["https://access.redhat.com/errata/RHSA-2026:10184","https://access.redhat.com/errata/RHSA-2026:13545","https://access.redhat.com/errata/RHSA-2026:13553","https://access.redhat.com/security/cve/CVE-2026-32274","https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=2447111"],"products":["python:black"],"source":"nvd","synced_at":"2026-10-19T22:25:53.701907451+00:00"},"epss":{"cve":"CVE-2026-32274","score":0.00646,"percentile":0.50965,"date":"2026-11-01"},"kev":null,"osv":[{"id":"GHSA-3936-cmfr-pm3m","url":"https://osv.dev/vulnerability/GHSA-3936-cmfr-pm3m","summary":"Black: Arbitrary file writes from unsanitized user input in cache file name","modified":"2026-09-10T03:50:36.703011526Z","packages":[{"ecosystem":"PyPI","name":"black","purl":"pkg:pypi/black","ranges":[">=24.3.0 <26.3.1"],"fixed":["26.3.1"]}]},{"id":"PYSEC-2026-2121","url":"https://osv.dev/vulnerability/PYSEC-2026-2121","summary":"","modified":"2026-07-13T07:15:15.715288911Z","packages":[{"ecosystem":"PyPI","name":"black","purl":"pkg:pypi/black","ranges":["<26.3.1"],"fixed":["26.3.1"]}]}],"attribution":["This product uses the NVD API but is not endorsed or certified by the NVD.","EPSS scores: FIRST Exploit Prediction Scoring System, https://www.first.org/epss","Known exploited vulnerabilities: CISA Known Exploited Vulnerabilities Catalog, https://www.cisa.gov/known-exploited-vulnerabilities-catalog","Package advisories: OSV (https://osv.dev), from the GitHub Advisory Database, PyPA, Go, RustSec and other ecosystem databases, under CC-BY 4.0 or CC0","CVE records: the CVE Program's CVE List (https://www.cve.org), under its terms of use (https://www.cve.org/Legal/TermsOfUse).
