{"cve":"CVE-2026-32116","nvd":{"published":"2026-03-12T18:16:24.930","modified":"2026-06-17T10:35:09.837","status":"Analyzed","description":"Magic Wormhole makes it possible to get arbitrary-sized files and directories from one computer to another. From 0.21.0 to before 0.23.0, receiving a file (wormhole receive) from a malicious party could result in overwriting critical local files, including ~/.ssh/authorized_keys and .bashrc. This could be used to compromise the receiver's computer. Only the sender of the file (the party who runs wormhole send) can mount the attack. Other parties (including the transit/relay servers) are excluded by the wormhole protocol. This vulnerability is fixed in 0.23.0.","cvss_v4":{"vector":"CVSS:4.0/AV:N/AC:L/AT:N/PR:L/UI:A/VC:N/VI:H/VA:N/SC:N/SI:H/SA:N","score":8.2},"cvss_v3":{"version":"3.1","vector":"CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:L/PR:L/UI:N/S:U/C:N/I:H/A:H","score":8.1},"cwes":["CWE-22"],"references":["https://github.com/magic-wormhole/magic-wormhole/security/advisories/GHSA-4g4c-mfqg-pj8r"],"products":["magic-wormhole_project:magic_wormhole"],"source":"nvd","synced_at":"2026-10-19T22:25:53.701907451+00:00"},"epss":{"cve":"CVE-2026-32116","score":0.00364,"percentile":0.30244,"date":"2026-11-01"},"kev":null,"osv":[{"id":"GHSA-4g4c-mfqg-pj8r","url":"https://osv.dev/vulnerability/GHSA-4g4c-mfqg-pj8r","summary":"Magic Wormhole: \"wormhole receive\" allows arbitrary local file overwrite","modified":"2026-07-13T16:42:44.471414306Z","packages":[{"ecosystem":"PyPI","name":"magic-wormhole","purl":"pkg:pypi/magic-wormhole","ranges":[">=0.21.0 <0.23.0"],"fixed":["0.23.0"]}]},{"id":"PYSEC-2026-2615","url":"https://osv.dev/vulnerability/PYSEC-2026-2615","summary":"Magic Wormhole: \"wormhole receive\" allows arbitrary local file overwrite","modified":"2026-07-13T16:32:12.327456476Z","packages":[{"ecosystem":"PyPI","name":"magic-wormhole","purl":"pkg:pypi/magic-wormhole","ranges":[">=0.21.0 <0.23.0"],"fixed":["0.23.0"]}]}],"attribution":["This product uses the NVD API but is not endorsed or certified by the NVD.","EPSS scores: FIRST Exploit Prediction Scoring System, https://www.first.org/epss","Known exploited vulnerabilities: CISA Known Exploited Vulnerabilities Catalog, https://www.cisa.gov/known-exploited-vulnerabilities-catalog","Package advisories: OSV (https://osv.dev), from the GitHub Advisory Database, PyPA, Go, RustSec and other ecosystem databases, under CC-BY 4.0 or CC0","CVE records: the CVE Program's CVE List (https://www.cve.org), under its terms of use (https://www.cve.org/Legal/TermsOfUse).
