{"cve":"CVE-2026-31770","nvd":{"published":"2026-05-01T15:16:40.200","modified":"2026-06-17T10:34:25.880","status":"Analyzed","description":"In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved:\n\nhwmon: (occ) Fix division by zero in occ_show_power_1()\n\nIn occ_show_power_1() case 1, the accumulator is divided by\nupdate_tag without checking for zero. If no samples have been\ncollected yet (e.g. during early boot when the sensor block is\nincluded but hasn't been updated), update_tag is zero, causing\na kernel divide-by-zero crash.\n\nThe 2019 fix in commit 211186cae14d (\"hwmon: (occ) Fix division by\nzero issue\") only addressed occ_get_powr_avg() used by\nocc_show_power_2() and occ_show_power_a0(). This separate code\npath in occ_show_power_1() was missed.\n\nFix this by reusing the existing occ_get_powr_avg() helper, which\nalready handles the zero-sample case and uses mul_u64_u32_div()\nto multiply before dividing for better precision. Move the helper\nabove occ_show_power_1() so it is visible at the call site.\n\n[groeck: Fix alignment problems reported by checkpatch]","cvss_v4":null,"cvss_v3":{"version":"3.1","vector":"CVSS:3.1/AV:L/AC:L/PR:L/UI:N/S:U/C:N/I:N/A:H","score":5.5},"cwes":["CWE-369"],"references":["https://git.kernel.org/stable/c/243d55bd3f08cb15eee9d63f4716d4d4cdd760f5","https://git.kernel.org/stable/c/2502684b9e835de9a992ec47c3e6c6faabe3858d","https://git.kernel.org/stable/c/37ae8fadc74ed68e5bc364ffd17746d88e449ae3","https://git.kernel.org/stable/c/39e2a5bf970402a8530a319cf06122e216ba57b8","https://git.kernel.org/stable/c/53e6175756b8c474b6247bbcea0aad3d68357475"],"products":["linux:linux_kernel"],"source":"nvd","synced_at":"2026-10-19T22:33:09.003606135+00:00"},"epss":{"cve":"CVE-2026-31770","score":0.00123,"percentile":0.01992,"date":"2026-10-31"},"kev":null,"osv":[],"attribution":["This product uses the NVD API but is not endorsed or certified by the NVD.","EPSS scores: FIRST Exploit Prediction Scoring System, https://www.first.org/epss","Known exploited vulnerabilities: CISA Known Exploited Vulnerabilities Catalog, https://www.cisa.gov/known-exploited-vulnerabilities-catalog","Package advisories: OSV (https://osv.dev), from the GitHub Advisory Database, PyPA, Go, RustSec and other ecosystem databases, under CC-BY 4.0 or CC0","CVE records: the CVE Program's CVE List (https://www.cve.org), under its terms of use (https://www.cve.org/Legal/TermsOfUse).
