{"cve":"CVE-2026-31247","nvd":{"published":"2026-05-11T16:17:29.743","modified":"2026-06-17T10:33:31.560","status":"Deferred","description":"Docling's JATS XML backend is vulnerable to XML Entity Expansion (XXE) attacks thru 2.61.0. The backend uses etree.parse() to parse XML files without disabling entity resolution. An attacker can craft a malicious XML file containing a nested entity expansion payload (XML Bomb). When processed by Docling, the exponential expansion of entities leads to excessive resource consumption, resulting in a denial of service (DoS) condition on the system running the Docling parser.","cvss_v4":null,"cvss_v3":{"version":"3.1","vector":"CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:L/PR:N/UI:N/S:U/C:N/I:N/A:H","score":7.5},"cwes":["CWE-400"],"references":["https://github.com/docling-project/docling","https://www.notion.so/CVE-2026-31247-35d1e1393188818fa654c116c6a470bb"],"products":[],"source":"nvd","synced_at":"2026-10-19T22:33:55.586217763+00:00"},"epss":{"cve":"CVE-2026-31247","score":0.00351,"percentile":0.28735,"date":"2026-10-31"},"kev":null,"osv":[{"id":"GHSA-cr42-rg2m-mq4q","url":"https://osv.dev/vulnerability/GHSA-cr42-rg2m-mq4q","summary":"Docling's JATS XML backend is vulnerable to XML Entity Expansion (XXE) attacks","modified":"2026-07-13T16:43:07.440539926Z","packages":[{"ecosystem":"PyPI","name":"docling","purl":"pkg:pypi/docling","ranges":["<=2.61.0"],"fixed":[]}]},{"id":"PYSEC-2026-2455","url":"https://osv.dev/vulnerability/PYSEC-2026-2455","summary":"Docling's JATS XML backend is vulnerable to XML Entity Expansion (XXE) attacks","modified":"2026-07-13T16:31:40.089732506Z","packages":[{"ecosystem":"PyPI","name":"docling","purl":"pkg:pypi/docling","ranges":["<=2.61.0"],"fixed":[]}]}],"attribution":["This product uses the NVD API but is not endorsed or certified by the NVD.","EPSS scores: FIRST Exploit Prediction Scoring System, https://www.first.org/epss","Known exploited vulnerabilities: CISA Known Exploited Vulnerabilities Catalog, https://www.cisa.gov/known-exploited-vulnerabilities-catalog","Package advisories: OSV (https://osv.dev), from the GitHub Advisory Database, PyPA, Go, RustSec and other ecosystem databases, under CC-BY 4.0 or CC0","CVE records: the CVE Program's CVE List (https://www.cve.org), under its terms of use (https://www.cve.org/Legal/TermsOfUse).
