{"cve":"CVE-2026-31237","nvd":{"published":"2026-05-12T18:16:52.087","modified":"2026-10-19T22:10:00.130","status":"Deferred","description":"The Ludwig framework thru 0.10.4 is vulnerable to insecure deserialization (CWE-502) through its predict() method. When a user provides a dataset file path to the predict() method, the framework automatically determines the file format. If the file is a pickle (.pkl) file, it is loaded using pandas.read_pickle() without any validation or security restrictions. This allows the deserialization of arbitrary Python objects via the unsafe pickle module. A remote attacker can exploit this by providing a maliciously crafted pickle file, leading to arbitrary code execution on the system running the Ludwig prediction.","cvss_v4":null,"cvss_v3":{"version":"3.1","vector":"CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:L/PR:N/UI:N/S:U/C:H/I:H/A:H","score":9.8},"cwes":["CWE-502"],"references":["https://github.com/ludwig-ai/ludwig","https://www.notion.so/CVE-2026-31237-35d1e139318881fb95a2ee7c5d0e17d8"],"products":[],"source":"nvd","synced_at":"2026-10-21T03:43:09.190223697+00:00"},"epss":{"cve":"CVE-2026-31237","score":0.006,"percentile":0.48451,"date":"2026-10-26"},"kev":null,"osv":[{"id":"GHSA-wcr3-gm9f-f87q","url":"https://osv.dev/vulnerability/GHSA-wcr3-gm9f-f87q","summary":"Ludwig framework is vulnerable to insecure deserialization through its predict() method.","modified":"2026-06-29T12:26:29.944519616Z","packages":[{"ecosystem":"PyPI","name":"ludwig","purl":"pkg:pypi/ludwig","ranges":["<=0.10.4"],"fixed":[]}]},{"id":"PYSEC-2026-404","url":"https://osv.dev/vulnerability/PYSEC-2026-404","summary":"Ludwig framework is vulnerable to insecure deserialization through its predict() method.","modified":"2026-07-01T20:22:56.815545Z","packages":[{"ecosystem":"PyPI","name":"ludwig","purl":"pkg:pypi/ludwig","ranges":["<=0.10.4"],"fixed":[]}]}],"attribution":["This product uses the NVD API but is not endorsed or certified by the NVD.","EPSS scores: FIRST Exploit Prediction Scoring System, https://www.first.org/epss","Known exploited vulnerabilities: CISA Known Exploited Vulnerabilities Catalog, https://www.cisa.gov/known-exploited-vulnerabilities-catalog","Package advisories: OSV (https://osv.dev), from the GitHub Advisory Database, PyPA, Go, RustSec and other ecosystem databases, under CC-BY 4.0 or CC0","CVE records: the CVE Program's CVE List (https://www.cve.org), under its terms of use (https://www.cve.org/Legal/TermsOfUse).
