{"cve":"CVE-2026-31235","nvd":{"published":"2026-05-12T18:16:51.860","modified":"2026-06-17T10:33:29.250","status":"Deferred","description":"The imgaug library thru 0.4.0 contains an insecure deserialization vulnerability in its BackgroundAugmenter class within the multicore.py module. The class uses Python's pickle module to deserialize data received via a multiprocessing queue in the _augment_images_worker() method without any safety checks. An attacker who can influence the data placed into this queue (e.g., through social engineering, malicious input scripts, or a compromised shared queue) can provide a malicious pickle payload. When deserialized, this payload can execute arbitrary code in the context of the worker process, leading to remote or local code execution depending on the deployment scenario.","cvss_v4":null,"cvss_v3":{"version":"3.1","vector":"CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:L/PR:N/UI:N/S:U/C:H/I:H/A:H","score":9.8},"cwes":["CWE-502"],"references":["https://github.com/aleju/imgaug","https://www.notion.so/CVE-2026-31235-35d1e139318881efb701d814228424a9"],"products":[],"source":"nvd","synced_at":"2026-10-19T22:35:16.954578616+00:00"},"epss":{"cve":"CVE-2026-31235","score":0.00473,"percentile":0.40889,"date":"2026-10-31"},"kev":null,"osv":[{"id":"GHSA-g82g-j283-hj97","url":"https://osv.dev/vulnerability/GHSA-g82g-j283-hj97","summary":"imgaug contains an insecure deserialization vulnerability in BackgroundAugmenter class within multicore.py module","modified":"2026-10-27T17:27:43.511108038Z","packages":[{"ecosystem":"PyPI","name":"imgaug","purl":"pkg:pypi/imgaug","ranges":["<=0.4.0"],"fixed":[]}]},{"id":"PYSEC-2026-356","url":"https://osv.dev/vulnerability/PYSEC-2026-356","summary":"imgaug contains an insecure deserialization vulnerability in BackgroundAugmenter class within multicore.py module","modified":"2026-07-01T20:22:54.401793Z","packages":[{"ecosystem":"PyPI","name":"imgaug","purl":"pkg:pypi/imgaug","ranges":["<=0.4.0"],"fixed":[]}]}],"attribution":["This product uses the NVD API but is not endorsed or certified by the NVD.","EPSS scores: FIRST Exploit Prediction Scoring System, https://www.first.org/epss","Known exploited vulnerabilities: CISA Known Exploited Vulnerabilities Catalog, https://www.cisa.gov/known-exploited-vulnerabilities-catalog","Package advisories: OSV (https://osv.dev), from the GitHub Advisory Database, PyPA, Go, RustSec and other ecosystem databases, under CC-BY 4.0 or CC0","CVE records: the CVE Program's CVE List (https://www.cve.org), under its terms of use (https://www.cve.org/Legal/TermsOfUse).
