Prior to version 16.8.0, Mercurius fails to enforce the configured queryDepth limit on GraphQL subscription queries received over WebSocket connections. The depth check is correctly applied to HTTP queries and mutations, but subscription queries are parsed and executed without invoking the depth validation. This allows a remote client to submit arbitrarily deeply nested subscription queries over WebSocket, bypassing the intended depth restriction. On schemas with recursive types, this can lead to denial of service through exponential data resolution on each subscription event. This issue has been patched in version 16.8.0.","cvss_v4":{"vector":"CVSS:4.0/AV:N/AC:L/AT:N/PR:N/UI:N/VC:N/VI:L/VA:L/SC:N/SI:N/SA:N/E:U","score":2.7},"cvss_v3":{"version":"3.1","vector":"CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:L/PR:N/UI:N/S:U/C:N/I:L/A:H","score":8.2},"cwes":["CWE-863"],"references":["https://github.com/mercurius-js/mercurius/commit/5b56f60f4b0d60780b0ff499a479bd830bdd6986","https://github.com/mercurius-js/mercurius/security/advisories/GHSA-m4h2-mjfm-mp55"],"products":["mercurius_project:mercurius"],"source":"nvd","synced_at":"2026-10-19T22:25:53.701907451+00:00"},"epss":{"cve":"CVE-2026-30241","score":0.00376,"percentile":0.31626,"date":"2026-10-31"},"kev":null,"osv":[{"id":"GHSA-m4h2-mjfm-mp55","url":"https://osv.dev/vulnerability/GHSA-m4h2-mjfm-mp55","summary":"Mercurius's queryDepth limit bypassed for WebSocket subscriptions","modified":"2026-03-09T13:16:31.467783Z","packages":[{"ecosystem":"npm","name":"mercurius","purl":"pkg:npm/mercurius","ranges":["<16.8.0"],"fixed":["16.8.0"]}]}],"attribution":["This product uses the NVD API but is not endorsed or certified by the NVD.","EPSS scores: FIRST Exploit Prediction Scoring System, https://www.first.org/epss","Known exploited vulnerabilities: CISA Known Exploited Vulnerabilities Catalog, https://www.cisa.gov/known-exploited-vulnerabilities-catalog","Package advisories: OSV (https://osv.dev), from the GitHub Advisory Database, PyPA, Go, RustSec and other ecosystem databases, under CC-BY 4.0 or CC0","CVE records: the CVE Program's CVE List (https://www.cve.org), under its terms of use (https://www.cve.org/Legal/TermsOfUse).
