Prior to version 2.0.1, the official example script examples/recursively_extract_attachments.py contains a path traversal vulnerability that allows arbitrary file write outside the intended output directory. Attachment filenames extracted from parsed emails are directly used to construct output file paths without any sanitization, allowing an attacker-controlled filename to escape the target directory. This issue has been patched in version 2.0.1.","cvss_v4":null,"cvss_v3":{"version":"3.1","vector":"CVSS:3.1/AV:L/AC:L/PR:N/UI:R/S:U/C:N/I:H/A:N","score":5.5},"cwes":["CWE-22"],"references":["https://github.com/GOVCERT-LU/eml_parser/commit/99af03a09a90aaaaadd0ed2ffb5eea46d1ea2cc9","https://github.com/GOVCERT-LU/eml_parser/issues/88","https://github.com/GOVCERT-LU/eml_parser/security/advisories/GHSA-389r-rccm-h3h5"],"products":["govcert.lu:eml_parser"],"source":"nvd","synced_at":"2026-10-19T22:25:53.701907451+00:00"},"epss":{"cve":"CVE-2026-29780","score":0.00252,"percentile":0.16691,"date":"2026-10-31"},"kev":null,"osv":[{"id":"GHSA-389r-rccm-h3h5","url":"https://osv.dev/vulnerability/GHSA-389r-rccm-h3h5","summary":"eml_parser: Path Traversal in Official Example Script Leads to Arbitrary File Write","modified":"2026-07-13T07:26:20.432198755Z","packages":[{"ecosystem":"PyPI","name":"eml-parser","purl":"pkg:pypi/eml-parser","ranges":["<2.0.1"],"fixed":["2.0.1"]}]},{"id":"PYSEC-2026-2148","url":"https://osv.dev/vulnerability/PYSEC-2026-2148","summary":"","modified":"2026-07-13T07:15:25.076274905Z","packages":[{"ecosystem":"PyPI","name":"eml-parser","purl":"pkg:pypi/eml-parser","ranges":["<2.0.1"],"fixed":["2.0.1"]}]}],"attribution":["This product uses the NVD API but is not endorsed or certified by the NVD.","EPSS scores: FIRST Exploit Prediction Scoring System, https://www.first.org/epss","Known exploited vulnerabilities: CISA Known Exploited Vulnerabilities Catalog, https://www.cisa.gov/known-exploited-vulnerabilities-catalog","Package advisories: OSV (https://osv.dev), from the GitHub Advisory Database, PyPA, Go, RustSec and other ecosystem databases, under CC-BY 4.0 or CC0","CVE records: the CVE Program's CVE List (https://www.cve.org), under its terms of use (https://www.cve.org/Legal/TermsOfUse).
