Prior to version 1.14.3, this is a configuration bypass vulnerability that enables arbitrary code execution. The @backstage/plugin-techdocs-node package uses an allowlist to filter dangerous MkDocs configuration keys during the documentation build process. A gap in this allowlist allows attackers to craft an mkdocs.yml that causes arbitrary Python code execution, completely bypassing TechDocs' security controls. This issue has been patched in version 1.14.3.","cvss_v4":null,"cvss_v3":{"version":"3.1","vector":"CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:L/PR:N/UI:N/S:U/C:H/I:H/A:H","score":9.8},"cwes":["CWE-74","CWE-434","CWE-791"],"references":["https://github.com/backstage/backstage/security/advisories/GHSA-928r-fm4v-mvrw","https://access.redhat.com/errata/RHSA-2026:13826","https://access.redhat.com/errata/RHSA-2026:9742","https://access.redhat.com/security/cve/CVE-2026-29186","https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=2445480"],"products":["linuxfoundation:backstage_plugin-techdocs-node"],"source":"nvd","synced_at":"2026-10-19T22:25:53.701907451+00:00"},"epss":{"cve":"CVE-2026-29186","score":0.00814,"percentile":0.57039,"date":"2026-11-01"},"kev":null,"osv":[{"id":"GHSA-928r-fm4v-mvrw","url":"https://osv.dev/vulnerability/GHSA-928r-fm4v-mvrw","summary":"TechDocs Mkdocs Configuration Key Enables Arbitrary Code Execution","modified":"2026-03-09T16:02:26.288095Z","packages":[{"ecosystem":"npm","name":"@backstage/plugin-techdocs-node","purl":"pkg:npm/%40backstage/plugin-techdocs-node","ranges":["<1.14.3"],"fixed":["1.14.3"]}]}],"attribution":["This product uses the NVD API but is not endorsed or certified by the NVD.","EPSS scores: FIRST Exploit Prediction Scoring System, https://www.first.org/epss","Known exploited vulnerabilities: CISA Known Exploited Vulnerabilities Catalog, https://www.cisa.gov/known-exploited-vulnerabilities-catalog","Package advisories: OSV (https://osv.dev), from the GitHub Advisory Database, PyPA, Go, RustSec and other ecosystem databases, under CC-BY 4.0 or CC0","CVE records: the CVE Program's CVE List (https://www.cve.org), under its terms of use (https://www.cve.org/Legal/TermsOfUse).
