Prior to 2.1.7, a path traversal vulnerability exists in the TinaCMS development server's media upload handler. The code at media.ts joins user-controlled path segments using path.join() without validating that the resulting path stays within the intended media directory. This allows writing files to arbitrary locations on the filesystem. This vulnerability is fixed in 2.1.7.","cvss_v4":null,"cvss_v3":{"version":"3.1","vector":"CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:H/PR:N/UI:N/S:U/C:N/I:H/A:H","score":7.4},"cwes":["CWE-22"],"references":["https://github.com/tinacms/tinacms/security/advisories/GHSA-5hxf-c7j4-279c","https://github.com/tinacms/tinacms/security/advisories/GHSA-5hxf-c7j4-279c"],"products":["ssw:tinacms\\/cli"],"source":"nvd","synced_at":"2026-10-19T22:25:53.701907451+00:00"},"epss":{"cve":"CVE-2026-28791","score":0.00345,"percentile":0.28052,"date":"2026-10-31"},"kev":null,"osv":[{"id":"GHSA-5hxf-c7j4-279c","url":"https://osv.dev/vulnerability/GHSA-5hxf-c7j4-279c","summary":"Tina: Path Traversal in Media Upload Handle","modified":"2026-03-14T05:56:20.742710Z","packages":[{"ecosystem":"npm","name":"tinacms","purl":"pkg:npm/tinacms","ranges":["<2.1.7"],"fixed":["2.1.7"]}]}],"attribution":["This product uses the NVD API but is not endorsed or certified by the NVD.","EPSS scores: FIRST Exploit Prediction Scoring System, https://www.first.org/epss","Known exploited vulnerabilities: CISA Known Exploited Vulnerabilities Catalog, https://www.cisa.gov/known-exploited-vulnerabilities-catalog","Package advisories: OSV (https://osv.dev), from the GitHub Advisory Database, PyPA, Go, RustSec and other ecosystem databases, under CC-BY 4.0 or CC0","CVE records: the CVE Program's CVE List (https://www.cve.org), under its terms of use (https://www.cve.org/Legal/TermsOfUse).
