Prior to version 7.5.8, a backslash path traversal vulnerability in `LocalFolderExtractor` allows an attacker to write arbitrary files with attacker-controlled content anywhere on the filesystem when a crafted RAR archive is extracted on Linux/Unix. This can often lead to remote code execution (e.g., overwriting shell profiles, source code, cron jobs, etc). Version 7.5.8 has a fix for the issue.","cvss_v4":null,"cvss_v3":{"version":"3.1","vector":"CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:H/PR:N/UI:N/S:U/C:N/I:H/A:N","score":5.9},"cwes":["CWE-22"],"references":["https://github.com/junrar/junrar/commit/947ff1d33f00f940aa68ae2593500291d799d954","https://github.com/junrar/junrar/releases/tag/v7.5.8","https://github.com/junrar/junrar/security/advisories/GHSA-j273-m5qq-6825","https://github.com/junrar/junrar/security/advisories/GHSA-j273-m5qq-6825"],"products":["junrar_project:junrar"],"source":"nvd","synced_at":"2026-10-19T22:24:17.937441719+00:00"},"epss":{"cve":"CVE-2026-28208","score":0.14739,"percentile":0.96678,"date":"2026-11-01"},"kev":null,"osv":[{"id":"GHSA-j273-m5qq-6825","url":"https://osv.dev/vulnerability/GHSA-j273-m5qq-6825","summary":"Junrar has an arbitrary file write due to backslash Path Traversal bypass in LocalFolderExtractor on Linux/Unix","modified":"2026-02-28T06:41:21.602161Z","packages":[{"ecosystem":"Maven","name":"com.github.junrar:junrar","purl":"pkg:maven/com.github.junrar/junrar","ranges":["<7.5.8"],"fixed":["7.5.8"]}]}],"attribution":["This product uses the NVD API but is not endorsed or certified by the NVD.","EPSS scores: FIRST Exploit Prediction Scoring System, https://www.first.org/epss","Known exploited vulnerabilities: CISA Known Exploited Vulnerabilities Catalog, https://www.cisa.gov/known-exploited-vulnerabilities-catalog","Package advisories: OSV (https://osv.dev), from the GitHub Advisory Database, PyPA, Go, RustSec and other ecosystem databases, under CC-BY 4.0 or CC0","CVE records: the CVE Program's CVE List (https://www.cve.org), under its terms of use (https://www.cve.org/Legal/TermsOfUse).
