{"cve":"CVE-2026-27622","nvd":{"published":"2026-03-03T23:15:55.737","modified":"2026-07-15T02:19:08.643","status":"Modified","description":"OpenEXR provides the specification and reference implementation of the EXR file format, an image storage format for the motion picture industry. In CompositeDeepScanLine::readPixels, per-pixel totals are accumulated in vector<unsigned int> total_sizes for attacker-controlled large counts across many parts, total_sizes[ptr] wraps modulo 2^32. overall_sample_count is then derived from wrapped totals and used in samples[channel].resize(overall_sample_count). Decode pointer setup/consumption proceeds with true sample counts, and write operations in core unpack (generic_unpack_deep_pointers) overrun the undersized composite sample buffer. This vulnerability is fixed in v3.2.6, v3.3.8, and v3.4.6.","cvss_v4":{"vector":"CVSS:4.0/AV:L/AC:L/AT:N/PR:N/UI:A/VC:H/VI:H/VA:H/SC:N/SI:N/SA:N","score":8.4},"cvss_v3":{"version":"3.1","vector":"CVSS:3.1/AV:L/AC:L/PR:N/UI:R/S:U/C:H/I:H/A:H","score":7.8},"cwes":["CWE-787","CWE-190"],"references":["https://github.com/AcademySoftwareFoundation/openexr/security/advisories/GHSA-cr4v-6jm6-4963","https://access.redhat.com/errata/RHSA-2026:12338","https://access.redhat.com/errata/RHSA-2026:12339","https://access.redhat.com/errata/RHSA-2026:12340","https://access.redhat.com/errata/RHSA-2026:12341"],"products":["openexr:openexr"],"source":"nvd","synced_at":"2026-10-19T22:24:17.937441719+00:00"},"epss":{"cve":"CVE-2026-27622","score":0.00241,"percentile":0.15348,"date":"2026-11-01"},"kev":null,"osv":[{"id":"GHSA-cr4v-6jm6-4963","url":"https://osv.dev/vulnerability/GHSA-cr4v-6jm6-4963","summary":"OpenEXR's CompositeDeepScanLine integer-overflow leads to heap OOB write","modified":"2026-07-13T16:43:37.006984693Z","packages":[{"ecosystem":"PyPI","name":"openexr","purl":"pkg:pypi/openexr","ranges":[">=2.3.0 <3.2.6"],"fixed":["3.2.6"]},{"ecosystem":"PyPI","name":"openexr","purl":"pkg:pypi/openexr","ranges":[">=3.3.0 <3.3.8"],"fixed":["3.3.8"]},{"ecosystem":"PyPI","name":"openexr","purl":"pkg:pypi/openexr","ranges":[">=3.4.0 <3.4.6"],"fixed":["3.4.6"]}]},{"id":"PYSEC-2026-2846","url":"https://osv.dev/vulnerability/PYSEC-2026-2846","summary":"OpenEXR's CompositeDeepScanLine integer-overflow leads to heap OOB write","modified":"2026-07-13T16:32:32.942872302Z","packages":[{"ecosystem":"PyPI","name":"openexr","purl":"pkg:pypi/openexr","ranges":[">=2.3.0 <3.2.6",">=3.3.0 <3.3.8",">=3.4.0 <3.4.6"],"fixed":["3.2.6","3.3.8","3.4.6"]}]}],"attribution":["This product uses the NVD API but is not endorsed or certified by the NVD.","EPSS scores: FIRST Exploit Prediction Scoring System, https://www.first.org/epss","Known exploited vulnerabilities: CISA Known Exploited Vulnerabilities Catalog, https://www.cisa.gov/known-exploited-vulnerabilities-catalog","Package advisories: OSV (https://osv.dev), from the GitHub Advisory Database, PyPA, Go, RustSec and other ecosystem databases, under CC-BY 4.0 or CC0","CVE records: the CVE Program's CVE List (https://www.cve.org), under its terms of use (https://www.cve.org/Legal/TermsOfUse).
