{"cve":"CVE-2026-25896","nvd":{"published":"2026-02-20T21:19:27.470","modified":"2026-09-10T13:17:54.697","status":"Modified","description":"fast-xml-parser allows users to validate XML, parse XML to JS object, or build XML from JS object without C/C++ based libraries and no callback. From 4.1.3to before 5.3.5, a dot (.) in a DOCTYPE entity name is treated as a regex wildcard during entity replacement, allowing an attacker to shadow built-in XML entities (<, >, &, ", ') with arbitrary values. This bypasses entity encoding and leads to XSS when parsed output is rendered. This vulnerability is fixed in 5.3.5.","cvss_v4":null,"cvss_v3":{"version":"3.1","vector":"CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:L/PR:N/UI:N/S:C/C:L/I:H/A:N","score":9.3},"cwes":["CWE-185","CWE-79"],"references":["https://github.com/NaturalIntelligence/fast-xml-parser/commit/943ef0eb1b2d3284e72dd74f44a042ee9f07026e","https://github.com/NaturalIntelligence/fast-xml-parser/commit/ddcd0acf26ddd682cb0dc15a2bd6aa3b96bb1e69","https://github.com/NaturalIntelligence/fast-xml-parser/releases/tag/v5.3.5","https://github.com/NaturalIntelligence/fast-xml-parser/security/advisories/GHSA-m7jm-9gc2-mpf2","https://access.redhat.com/errata/RHSA-2026:40984"],"products":["naturalintelligence:fast-xml-parser"],"source":"nvd","synced_at":"2026-10-19T22:24:17.937441719+00:00"},"epss":{"cve":"CVE-2026-25896","score":0.00527,"percentile":0.4469,"date":"2026-10-31"},"kev":null,"osv":[{"id":"GHSA-m7jm-9gc2-mpf2","url":"https://osv.dev/vulnerability/GHSA-m7jm-9gc2-mpf2","summary":"fast-xml-parser has an entity encoding bypass via regex injection in DOCTYPE entity names","modified":"2026-09-10T03:50:35.317514651Z","packages":[{"ecosystem":"npm","name":"fast-xml-parser","purl":"pkg:npm/fast-xml-parser","ranges":[">=5.0.0 <5.3.5"],"fixed":["5.3.5"]},{"ecosystem":"npm","name":"fast-xml-parser","purl":"pkg:npm/fast-xml-parser","ranges":[">=4.1.3 <4.5.4"],"fixed":["4.5.4"]}]}],"attribution":["This product uses the NVD API but is not endorsed or certified by the NVD.","EPSS scores: FIRST Exploit Prediction Scoring System, https://www.first.org/epss","Known exploited vulnerabilities: CISA Known Exploited Vulnerabilities Catalog, https://www.cisa.gov/known-exploited-vulnerabilities-catalog","Package advisories: OSV (https://osv.dev), from the GitHub Advisory Database, PyPA, Go, RustSec and other ecosystem databases, under CC-BY 4.0 or CC0","CVE records: the CVE Program's CVE List (https://www.cve.org), under its terms of use (https://www.cve.org/Legal/TermsOfUse).
