{"cve":"CVE-2026-25516","nvd":{"published":"2026-02-06T22:16:11.300","modified":"2026-06-17T10:24:46.520","status":"Analyzed","description":"NiceGUI is a Python-based UI framework. The ui.markdown() component uses the markdown2 library to convert markdown content to HTML, which is then rendered via innerHTML. By default, markdown2 allows raw HTML to pass through unchanged. This means that if an application renders user-controlled content through ui.markdown(), an attacker can inject malicious HTML containing JavaScript event handlers. Unlike other NiceGUI components that render HTML (ui.html(), ui.chat_message(), ui.interactive_image()), the ui.markdown() component does not provide or require a sanitize parameter, leaving applications vulnerable to XSS attacks. This vulnerability is fixed in 3.7.0.","cvss_v4":null,"cvss_v3":{"version":"3.1","vector":"CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:L/PR:N/UI:R/S:C/C:L/I:L/A:N","score":6.1},"cwes":["CWE-79"],"references":["https://github.com/zauberzeug/nicegui/commit/f1f7533577875af7d23f161ed3627f73584cb561","https://github.com/zauberzeug/nicegui/security/advisories/GHSA-v82v-c5x8-w282"],"products":["zauberzeug:nicegui"],"source":"nvd","synced_at":"2026-10-19T22:22:27.261130201+00:00"},"epss":{"cve":"CVE-2026-25516","score":0.0028,"percentile":0.20569,"date":"2026-11-01"},"kev":null,"osv":[{"id":"GHSA-v82v-c5x8-w282","url":"https://osv.dev/vulnerability/GHSA-v82v-c5x8-w282","summary":"NiceGUI's XSS vulnerability in ui.markdown() allows arbitrary JavaScript execution through unsanitized HTML content","modified":"2026-07-13T07:26:12.382162123Z","packages":[{"ecosystem":"PyPI","name":"nicegui","purl":"pkg:pypi/nicegui","ranges":["<3.7.0"],"fixed":["3.7.0"]}]},{"id":"PYSEC-2026-2231","url":"https://osv.dev/vulnerability/PYSEC-2026-2231","summary":"","modified":"2026-07-13T07:15:38.574119328Z","packages":[{"ecosystem":"PyPI","name":"nicegui","purl":"pkg:pypi/nicegui","ranges":["<3.7.0"],"fixed":["3.7.0"]}]}],"attribution":["This product uses the NVD API but is not endorsed or certified by the NVD.","EPSS scores: FIRST Exploit Prediction Scoring System, https://www.first.org/epss","Known exploited vulnerabilities: CISA Known Exploited Vulnerabilities Catalog, https://www.cisa.gov/known-exploited-vulnerabilities-catalog","Package advisories: OSV (https://osv.dev), from the GitHub Advisory Database, PyPA, Go, RustSec and other ecosystem databases, under CC-BY 4.0 or CC0","CVE records: the CVE Program's CVE List (https://www.cve.org), under its terms of use (https://www.cve.org/Legal/TermsOfUse).
