Prior to 2.20.3, a path traversal vulnerability in SignalK Server's applicationData API allows authenticated users on Windows systems to read, write, and list arbitrary files and directories on the filesystem. The validateAppId() function blocks forward slashes (/) but not backslashes (\\), which are treated as directory separators by path.join() on Windows. This enables attackers to escape the intended applicationData directory. This vulnerability is fixed in 2.20.3.","cvss_v4":null,"cvss_v3":{"version":"3.1","vector":"CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:L/PR:L/UI:N/S:U/C:L/I:N/A:N","score":4.3},"cwes":["CWE-22"],"references":["https://github.com/SignalK/signalk-server/commit/9bcf61c8fe2cb8a40998b913a02fb64dff9e86c7","https://github.com/SignalK/signalk-server/security/advisories/GHSA-vrhw-v2hw-jffx"],"products":["signalk:signal_k_server"],"source":"nvd","synced_at":"2026-10-19T22:22:27.261130201+00:00"},"epss":{"cve":"CVE-2026-25228","score":0.00426,"percentile":0.36877,"date":"2026-11-01"},"kev":null,"osv":[{"id":"GHSA-vrhw-v2hw-jffx","url":"https://osv.dev/vulnerability/GHSA-vrhw-v2hw-jffx","summary":"SignalK Server has Path Traversal leading to information disclosure","modified":"2026-02-03T17:48:55.832232Z","packages":[{"ecosystem":"npm","name":"signalk-server","purl":"pkg:npm/signalk-server","ranges":["<2.20.3"],"fixed":["2.20.3"]}]}],"attribution":["This product uses the NVD API but is not endorsed or certified by the NVD.","EPSS scores: FIRST Exploit Prediction Scoring System, https://www.first.org/epss","Known exploited vulnerabilities: CISA Known Exploited Vulnerabilities Catalog, https://www.cisa.gov/known-exploited-vulnerabilities-catalog","Package advisories: OSV (https://osv.dev), from the GitHub Advisory Database, PyPA, Go, RustSec and other ecosystem databases, under CC-BY 4.0 or CC0","CVE records: the CVE Program's CVE List (https://www.cve.org), under its terms of use (https://www.cve.org/Legal/TermsOfUse).
