From version 0.14.8 to before 1.1.1, a path traversal vulnerability was discovered in apko's dirFS filesystem abstraction. An attacker who can supply a malicious APK package (e.g., via a compromised or typosquatted repository) could create directories or symlinks outside the intended installation root. The MkdirAll, Mkdir, and Symlink methods in pkg/apk/fs/rwosfs.go use filepath.Join() without validating that the resulting path stays within the base directory. This issue has been patched in version 1.1.1.","cvss_v4":null,"cvss_v3":{"version":"3.1","vector":"CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:L/PR:N/UI:N/S:U/C:N/I:H/A:N","score":7.5},"cwes":["CWE-22","CWE-23"],"references":["https://github.com/chainguard-dev/apko/commit/d8b7887a968a527791b3c591ae83928cb49a9f14","https://github.com/chainguard-dev/apko/security/advisories/GHSA-5g94-c2wx-8pxw"],"products":["chainguard:apko"],"source":"nvd","synced_at":"2026-10-19T22:22:27.261130201+00:00"},"epss":{"cve":"CVE-2026-25121","score":0.00413,"percentile":0.35617,"date":"2026-10-31"},"kev":null,"osv":[{"id":"GHSA-5g94-c2wx-8pxw","url":"https://osv.dev/vulnerability/GHSA-5g94-c2wx-8pxw","summary":"apko has a path traversal in apko dirFS which allows filesystem writes outside base","modified":"2026-09-10T03:50:34.269342712Z","packages":[{"ecosystem":"Go","name":"chainguard.dev/apko","purl":"pkg:golang/chainguard.dev/apko","ranges":[">=0.14.8 <1.1.0"],"fixed":["1.1.0"]}]},{"id":"GO-2026-4405","url":"https://osv.dev/vulnerability/GO-2026-4405","summary":"apko has a path traversal in apko dirFS which allows filesystem writes outside base in chainguard.dev/apko","modified":"2026-02-06T02:13:48.278682Z","packages":[{"ecosystem":"Go","name":"chainguard.dev/apko","purl":"pkg:golang/chainguard.dev/apko","ranges":[">=0.14.8 <1.1.0"],"fixed":["1.1.0"]}]}],"attribution":["This product uses the NVD API but is not endorsed or certified by the NVD.","EPSS scores: FIRST Exploit Prediction Scoring System, https://www.first.org/epss","Known exploited vulnerabilities: CISA Known Exploited Vulnerabilities Catalog, https://www.cisa.gov/known-exploited-vulnerabilities-catalog","Package advisories: OSV (https://osv.dev), from the GitHub Advisory Database, PyPA, Go, RustSec and other ecosystem databases, under CC-BY 4.0 or CC0","CVE records: the CVE Program's CVE List (https://www.cve.org), under its terms of use (https://www.cve.org/Legal/TermsOfUse).
