In versions up to and including 8.0.0, an arbitrary file exfiltration vulnerability in the fax sending endpoint allows any authenticated user to read and transmit any file on the server (including database credentials, patient documents, system files, and source code) via fax to an attacker-controlled phone number. The vulnerability exists because the endpoint accepts arbitrary file paths from user input and streams them to the fax gateway without path restrictions or authorization checks. As of time of publication, no known patched versions are available.","cvss_v4":null,"cvss_v3":{"version":"3.1","vector":"CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:L/PR:L/UI:N/S:U/C:H/I:N/A:N","score":6.5},"cwes":["CWE-22"],"references":["https://github.com/openemr/openemr/blob/v7_0_4/interface/modules/custom_modules/oe-module-faxsms/src/Controller/EtherFaxActions.php#L177-L221","https://github.com/openemr/openemr/security/advisories/GHSA-765x-8v97-c7g8"],"products":["open-emr:openemr"],"source":"nvd","synced_at":"2026-10-19T22:24:17.937441719+00:00"},"epss":{"cve":"CVE-2026-24488","score":0.00454,"percentile":0.39392,"date":"2026-10-31"},"kev":null,"osv":[],"attribution":["This product uses the NVD API but is not endorsed or certified by the NVD.","EPSS scores: FIRST Exploit Prediction Scoring System, https://www.first.org/epss","Known exploited vulnerabilities: CISA Known Exploited Vulnerabilities Catalog, https://www.cisa.gov/known-exploited-vulnerabilities-catalog","Package advisories: OSV (https://osv.dev), from the GitHub Advisory Database, PyPA, Go, RustSec and other ecosystem databases, under CC-BY 4.0 or CC0","CVE records: the CVE Program's CVE List (https://www.cve.org), under its terms of use (https://www.cve.org/Legal/TermsOfUse).
