{"cve":"CVE-2026-24131","nvd":{"published":"2026-01-26T22:15:56.830","modified":"2026-06-17T10:22:40.880","status":"Analyzed","description":"pnpm is a package manager. Prior to version 10.28.2, when pnpm processes a package's `directories.bin` field, it uses `path.join()` without validating the result stays within the package root. A malicious npm package can specify `\"directories\": {\"bin\": \"../../../../tmp\"}` to escape the package directory, causing pnpm to chmod 755 files at arbitrary locations. This issue only affects Unix/Linux/macOS. Windows is not affected (`fixBin` gated by `EXECUTABLE_SHEBANG_SUPPORTED`). Version 10.28.2 contains a patch.","cvss_v4":{"vector":"CVSS:4.0/AV:L/AC:L/AT:N/PR:N/UI:A/VC:H/VI:N/VA:N/SC:N/SI:N/SA:N","score":6.7},"cvss_v3":{"version":"3.1","vector":"CVSS:3.1/AV:L/AC:L/PR:L/UI:N/S:U/C:H/I:N/A:N","score":5.5},"cwes":["CWE-22","CWE-732"],"references":["https://github.com/pnpm/pnpm/commit/17432ad5bbed5c2e77255ca6d56a1449bbcfd943","https://github.com/pnpm/pnpm/releases/tag/v10.28.2","https://github.com/pnpm/pnpm/security/advisories/GHSA-v253-rj99-jwpq"],"products":["pnpm:pnpm"],"source":"nvd","synced_at":"2026-10-19T22:21:16.563232421+00:00"},"epss":{"cve":"CVE-2026-24131","score":0.00271,"percentile":0.19368,"date":"2026-10-31"},"kev":null,"osv":[{"id":"GHSA-v253-rj99-jwpq","url":"https://osv.dev/vulnerability/GHSA-v253-rj99-jwpq","summary":"pnpm has Path Traversal via arbitrary file permission modification ","modified":"2026-02-03T03:07:47.088542Z","packages":[{"ecosystem":"npm","name":"pnpm","purl":"pkg:npm/pnpm","ranges":["<10.28.2"],"fixed":["10.28.2"]}]}],"attribution":["This product uses the NVD API but is not endorsed or certified by the NVD.","EPSS scores: FIRST Exploit Prediction Scoring System, https://www.first.org/epss","Known exploited vulnerabilities: CISA Known Exploited Vulnerabilities Catalog, https://www.cisa.gov/known-exploited-vulnerabilities-catalog","Package advisories: OSV (https://osv.dev), from the GitHub Advisory Database, PyPA, Go, RustSec and other ecosystem databases, under CC-BY 4.0 or CC0","CVE records: the CVE Program's CVE List (https://www.cve.org), under its terms of use (https://www.cve.org/Legal/TermsOfUse).
