{"cve":"CVE-2026-24000","nvd":{"published":"2026-05-14T20:17:01.713","modified":"2026-10-26T14:10:00.130","status":"Analyzed","description":"Fleet is open source device management software. Prior to version 4.80.1, Fleet trusted client-supplied IP address headers when determining the source IP for incoming requests. This allowed authenticated and unauthenticated clients to spoof their apparent IP address and bypass per-IP rate limiting controls. Fleet determines a client’s public IP address using HTTP headers such as X-Forwarded-For, X-Real-IP, and/or True-Client-IP. These headers were trusted without validation. An attacker could supply arbitrary values in these headers, causing Fleet to treat each request as originating from a different IP address. This could allow an attacker to bypass per-IP rate limits and increase the effectiveness of brute-force or password-spraying attempts against authentication endpoints. This issue does not allow authentication bypass, privilege escalation, data exposure, or remote code execution on its own. Version 4.80.1 contains a patch. As a workaround, run Fleet behind a trusted reverse proxy or load balancer that overwrites client IP headers.","cvss_v4":{"vector":"CVSS:4.0/AV:N/AC:L/AT:N/PR:N/UI:N/VC:N/VI:L/VA:N/SC:N/SI:N/SA:N","score":6.9},"cvss_v3":{"version":"3.1","vector":"CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:L/PR:N/UI:N/S:U/C:N/I:L/A:N","score":5.3},"cwes":["CWE-290"],"references":["https://github.com/fleetdm/fleet/releases/tag/fleet-v4.80.1","https://github.com/fleetdm/fleet/security/advisories/GHSA-j8h8-75h3-jg53"],"products":["fleetdm:fleet"],"source":"nvd","synced_at":"2026-10-26T14:27:29.784594657+00:00"},"epss":{"cve":"CVE-2026-24000","score":0.0043,"percentile":0.36964,"date":"2026-10-26"},"kev":null,"osv":[{"id":"GHSA-j8h8-75h3-jg53","url":"https://osv.dev/vulnerability/GHSA-j8h8-75h3-jg53","summary":"Fleet has a rate limiting bypass via untrusted client IP headers","modified":"2026-06-25T23:11:31.673819281Z","packages":[{"ecosystem":"Go","name":"github.com/fleetdm/fleet/v4","purl":"pkg:golang/github.com/fleetdm/fleet/v4","ranges":["<4.80.1"],"fixed":["4.80.1"]}]},{"id":"GO-2026-5455","url":"https://osv.dev/vulnerability/GO-2026-5455","summary":"Fleet has a rate limiting bypass via untrusted client IP headers in github.com/fleetdm/fleet","modified":"2026-06-25T23:01:13.653079489Z","packages":[{"ecosystem":"Go","name":"github.com/fleetdm/fleet/v4","purl":"pkg:golang/github.com/fleetdm/fleet/v4","ranges":["<4.80.1"],"fixed":["4.80.1"]}]}],"attribution":["This product uses the NVD API but is not endorsed or certified by the NVD.","EPSS scores: FIRST Exploit Prediction Scoring System, https://www.first.org/epss","Known exploited vulnerabilities: CISA Known Exploited Vulnerabilities Catalog, https://www.cisa.gov/known-exploited-vulnerabilities-catalog","Package advisories: OSV (https://osv.dev), from the GitHub Advisory Database, PyPA, Go, RustSec and other ecosystem databases, under CC-BY 4.0 or CC0","CVE records: the CVE Program's CVE List (https://www.cve.org), under its terms of use (https://www.cve.org/Legal/TermsOfUse).
