The vulnerability is located in the sql_parse.py component, specifically within the SQL_REGEX used for parsing SQL statements in the sqlparse library integration.\nThe affected regular expression contains overlapping disjunctions that share a common outer quantifier. An authenticated attacker can exploit this by sending a maliciously crafted input string (specifically a long sequence of backslashes or similar characters) to endpoints that process SQL queries\n\nThis issue affects Apache Superset: before 6.0.0.\n\nUsers are recommended to upgrade to version 6.0.0, which fixes the issue. \n\nWorkarounds:\n● WAF Rules: Implement Web Application Firewall (WAF) rules to detect and block\nrequests containing excessively long sequences of backslashes or suspicious repeated\npatterns in the queries.extras.where parameter.\n● Rate Limiting: Ensure strict rate limiting is applied to the /api/v1/chart/data endpoint to\nreduce the impact of potential attacks.","cvss_v4":{"vector":"CVSS:4.0/AV:N/AC:L/AT:N/PR:L/UI:N/VC:N/VI:N/VA:L/SC:N/SI:N/SA:N","score":5.3},"cvss_v3":{"version":"3.1","vector":"CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:L/PR:L/UI:N/S:U/C:N/I:N/A:H","score":6.5},"cwes":["CWE-1333"],"references":["https://lists.apache.org/thread/fdy7tx7glv90ypd7qnm1g1pt7nn336qx","http://www.openwall.com/lists/oss-security/2026/07/30/7"],"products":["apache:superset"],"source":"nvd","synced_at":"2026-10-24T16:53:34.184483516+00:00"},"epss":{"cve":"CVE-2026-23985","score":0.00653,"percentile":0.50975,"date":"2026-10-25"},"kev":null,"osv":[],"attribution":["This product uses the NVD API but is not endorsed or certified by the NVD.","EPSS scores: FIRST Exploit Prediction Scoring System, https://www.first.org/epss","Known exploited vulnerabilities: CISA Known Exploited Vulnerabilities Catalog, https://www.cisa.gov/known-exploited-vulnerabilities-catalog","Package advisories: OSV (https://osv.dev), from the GitHub Advisory Database, PyPA, Go, RustSec and other ecosystem databases, under CC-BY 4.0 or CC0","CVE records: the CVE Program's CVE List (https://www.cve.org), under its terms of use (https://www.cve.org/Legal/TermsOfUse).
