Prior to version 10.28.1, a path traversal vulnerability in pnpm's bin linking allows malicious npm packages to create executable shims or symlinks outside of `node_modules/.bin`. Bin names starting with `@` bypass validation, and after scope normalization, path traversal sequences like `../../` remain intact. This issue affects all pnpm users who install npm packages and CI/CD pipelines using pnpm. It can lead to overwriting config files, scripts, or other sensitive files. Version 10.28.1 contains a patch.","cvss_v4":null,"cvss_v3":{"version":"3.1","vector":"CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:L/PR:N/UI:R/S:U/C:N/I:H/A:N","score":6.5},"cwes":["CWE-23"],"references":["https://github.com/pnpm/pnpm/commit/8afbb1598445d37985d91fda18abb4795ae5062d","https://github.com/pnpm/pnpm/releases/tag/v10.28.1","https://github.com/pnpm/pnpm/security/advisories/GHSA-xpqm-wm3m-f34h"],"products":["pnpm:pnpm"],"source":"nvd","synced_at":"2026-10-19T22:21:16.563232421+00:00"},"epss":{"cve":"CVE-2026-23890","score":0.00498,"percentile":0.4271,"date":"2026-10-31"},"kev":null,"osv":[{"id":"GHSA-xpqm-wm3m-f34h","url":"https://osv.dev/vulnerability/GHSA-xpqm-wm3m-f34h","summary":"pnpm scoped bin name Path Traversal allows arbitrary file creation outside node_modules/.bin","modified":"2026-02-03T03:06:15.209571Z","packages":[{"ecosystem":"npm","name":"pnpm","purl":"pkg:npm/pnpm","ranges":["<10.28.1"],"fixed":["10.28.1"]}]}],"attribution":["This product uses the NVD API but is not endorsed or certified by the NVD.","EPSS scores: FIRST Exploit Prediction Scoring System, https://www.first.org/epss","Known exploited vulnerabilities: CISA Known Exploited Vulnerabilities Catalog, https://www.cisa.gov/known-exploited-vulnerabilities-catalog","Package advisories: OSV (https://osv.dev), from the GitHub Advisory Database, PyPA, Go, RustSec and other ecosystem databases, under CC-BY 4.0 or CC0","CVE records: the CVE Program's CVE List (https://www.cve.org), under its terms of use (https://www.cve.org/Legal/TermsOfUse).
