Prior to 1.0.5 , Pepr defaults to a cluster-admin RBAC configuration and does not explicitly force or enforce least-privilege guidance for module authors. The default behavior exists to make the “getting started” experience smooth: new users can experiment with Pepr and create resources dynamically without needing to pre-configure RBAC. This vulnerability is fixed in 1.0.5.","cvss_v4":null,"cvss_v3":{"version":"3.1","vector":"CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:L/PR:L/UI:N/S:U/C:N/I:L/A:N","score":4.3},"cwes":["CWE-272"],"references":["https://github.com/defenseunicorns/pepr/releases/tag/v1.0.5","https://github.com/defenseunicorns/pepr/security/advisories/GHSA-w54x-r83c-x79q"],"products":["defenseunicorns:pepr"],"source":"nvd","synced_at":"2026-10-19T22:21:16.563232421+00:00"},"epss":{"cve":"CVE-2026-23634","score":0.00246,"percentile":0.15987,"date":"2026-10-31"},"kev":null,"osv":[{"id":"GHSA-w54x-r83c-x79q","url":"https://osv.dev/vulnerability/GHSA-w54x-r83c-x79q","summary":"Pepr Has Overly Permissive RBAC ClusterRole in Admin Mode","modified":"2026-02-03T03:15:33.104947Z","packages":[{"ecosystem":"npm","name":"pepr","purl":"pkg:npm/pepr","ranges":["<1.0.5"],"fixed":["1.0.5"]}]}],"attribution":["This product uses the NVD API but is not endorsed or certified by the NVD.","EPSS scores: FIRST Exploit Prediction Scoring System, https://www.first.org/epss","Known exploited vulnerabilities: CISA Known Exploited Vulnerabilities Catalog, https://www.cisa.gov/known-exploited-vulnerabilities-catalog","Package advisories: OSV (https://osv.dev), from the GitHub Advisory Database, PyPA, Go, RustSec and other ecosystem databases, under CC-BY 4.0 or CC0","CVE records: the CVE Program's CVE List (https://www.cve.org), under its terms of use (https://www.cve.org/Legal/TermsOfUse).
