{"cve":"CVE-2026-22817","nvd":{"published":"2026-01-13T20:16:11.570","modified":"2026-06-17T10:20:28.957","status":"Analyzed","description":"Hono is a Web application framework that provides support for any JavaScript runtime. Prior to 4.11.4, there is a flaw in Hono’s JWK/JWKS JWT verification middleware allowed the JWT header’s alg value to influence signature verification when the selected JWK did not explicitly specify an algorithm. This could enable JWT algorithm confusion and, in certain configurations, allow forged tokens to be accepted. As part of this fix, the JWT middleware now requires the alg option to be explicitly specified. This prevents algorithm confusion by ensuring that the verification algorithm is not derived from untrusted JWT header values. This vulnerability is fixed in 4.11.4.","cvss_v4":null,"cvss_v3":{"version":"3.1","vector":"CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:L/PR:N/UI:N/S:U/C:L/I:L/A:N","score":6.5},"cwes":["CWE-347"],"references":["https://github.com/honojs/hono/commit/cc0aa7ae327ed84cc391d29086dec2a3e44e7a1f","https://github.com/honojs/hono/security/advisories/GHSA-f67f-6cw9-8mq4"],"products":["hono:hono"],"source":"nvd","synced_at":"2026-10-19T22:19:41.481987139+00:00"},"epss":{"cve":"CVE-2026-22817","score":0.00166,"percentile":0.05835,"date":"2026-11-01"},"kev":null,"osv":[{"id":"GHSA-f67f-6cw9-8mq4","url":"https://osv.dev/vulnerability/GHSA-f67f-6cw9-8mq4","summary":"Hono JWT Middleware's JWT Algorithm Confusion via Unsafe Default (HS256) Allows Token Forgery and Auth Bypass","modified":"2026-09-10T03:50:33.087422192Z","packages":[{"ecosystem":"npm","name":"hono","purl":"pkg:npm/hono","ranges":["<4.11.4"],"fixed":["4.11.4"]}]}],"attribution":["This product uses the NVD API but is not endorsed or certified by the NVD.","EPSS scores: FIRST Exploit Prediction Scoring System, https://www.first.org/epss","Known exploited vulnerabilities: CISA Known Exploited Vulnerabilities Catalog, https://www.cisa.gov/known-exploited-vulnerabilities-catalog","Package advisories: OSV (https://osv.dev), from the GitHub Advisory Database, PyPA, Go, RustSec and other ecosystem databases, under CC-BY 4.0 or CC0","CVE records: the CVE Program's CVE List (https://www.cve.org), under its terms of use (https://www.cve.org/Legal/TermsOfUse).
