In versions up to and including 1.5.1, a Path Traversal (Zip Slip) vulnerability exists in MONAI's `_download_from_ngc_private()` function. The function uses `zipfile.ZipFile.extractall()` without path validation, while other similar download functions in the same codebase properly use the existing `safe_extract_member()` function. Commit 4014c8475626f20f158921ae0cf98ed259ae4d59 fixes this issue.","cvss_v4":null,"cvss_v3":{"version":"3.1","vector":"CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:H/PR:N/UI:R/S:U/C:N/I:H/A:N","score":5.3},"cwes":["CWE-22"],"references":["https://github.com/Project-MONAI/MONAI/commit/4014c8475626f20f158921ae0cf98ed259ae4d59","https://github.com/Project-MONAI/MONAI/security/advisories/GHSA-9rg3-9pvr-6p27","https://github.com/Project-MONAI/MONAI/security/advisories/GHSA-9rg3-9pvr-6p27"],"products":["project-monai:monai"],"source":"nvd","synced_at":"2026-10-19T22:19:41.481987139+00:00"},"epss":{"cve":"CVE-2026-21851","score":0.00357,"percentile":0.2952,"date":"2026-10-31"},"kev":null,"osv":[{"id":"GHSA-9rg3-9pvr-6p27","url":"https://osv.dev/vulnerability/GHSA-9rg3-9pvr-6p27","summary":"MONAI has Path Traversal (Zip Slip) in NGC Private Bundle Download","modified":"2026-07-07T17:56:28.849992180Z","packages":[{"ecosystem":"PyPI","name":"monai","purl":"pkg:pypi/monai","ranges":["<1.5.2"],"fixed":["1.5.2"]}]},{"id":"PYSEC-2026-1678","url":"https://osv.dev/vulnerability/PYSEC-2026-1678","summary":"MONAI has Path Traversal (Zip Slip) in NGC Private Bundle Download","modified":"2026-07-07T17:47:17.099981679Z","packages":[{"ecosystem":"PyPI","name":"monai","purl":"pkg:pypi/monai","ranges":["<1.5.2"],"fixed":["1.5.2"]}]}],"attribution":["This product uses the NVD API but is not endorsed or certified by the NVD.","EPSS scores: FIRST Exploit Prediction Scoring System, https://www.first.org/epss","Known exploited vulnerabilities: CISA Known Exploited Vulnerabilities Catalog, https://www.cisa.gov/known-exploited-vulnerabilities-catalog","Package advisories: OSV (https://osv.dev), from the GitHub Advisory Database, PyPA, Go, RustSec and other ecosystem databases, under CC-BY 4.0 or CC0","CVE records: the CVE Program's CVE List (https://www.cve.org), under its terms of use (https://www.cve.org/Legal/TermsOfUse).
