{"cve":"CVE-2026-14966","nvd":{"published":"2026-07-08T16:16:27.237","modified":"2026-10-25T20:10:00.147","status":"Analyzed","description":"BBOT's unarchive module rejects archives containing symlink entries before extraction, but for zip and 7z archives it failed to detect symlinks whose listing carries a DOS-attribute prefix before the unix mode, as produced by legacy versions of p7zip. Such an archive, downloaded and extracted during a scan (for example via filedownload), bypassed the guard and caused an attacker-controlled symlink to be written into the extraction directory. The effect is limited to planting the symlink (its target is not written through), and only hosts using such a legacy p7zip build are affected; current mainline 7-Zip is not.","cvss_v4":null,"cvss_v3":{"version":"3.1","vector":"CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:H/PR:N/UI:R/S:U/C:N/I:L/A:N","score":3.1},"cwes":["CWE-59"],"references":["https://github.com/blacklanternsecurity/bbot/commit/a3f1a2292e2b0a553827c6175b761abe28807735"],"products":["blacklanternsecurity:bbot"],"source":"nvd","synced_at":"2026-10-25T23:44:34.550481224+00:00"},"epss":{"cve":"CVE-2026-14966","score":0.00384,"percentile":0.32146,"date":"2026-10-25"},"kev":null,"osv":[{"id":"GHSA-xpf3-p7gm-7756","url":"https://osv.dev/vulnerability/GHSA-xpf3-p7gm-7756","summary":"BBOT's Symlink guard bypass in unarchive module allows planting symlinks during extraction","modified":"2026-10-14T19:55:56.169306546Z","packages":[{"ecosystem":"PyPI","name":"bbot","purl":"pkg:pypi/bbot","ranges":[">=2.3.1 <3.0.0"],"fixed":["3.0.0"]}]},{"id":"PYSEC-2026-3719","url":"https://osv.dev/vulnerability/PYSEC-2026-3719","summary":"","modified":"2026-10-15T14:45:06.605119963Z","packages":[{"ecosystem":"PyPI","name":"bbot","purl":"pkg:pypi/bbot","ranges":[">=2.3.1 <3.0.0"],"fixed":["3.0.0"]}]}],"attribution":["This product uses the NVD API but is not endorsed or certified by the NVD.","EPSS scores: FIRST Exploit Prediction Scoring System, https://www.first.org/epss","Known exploited vulnerabilities: CISA Known Exploited Vulnerabilities Catalog, https://www.cisa.gov/known-exploited-vulnerabilities-catalog","Package advisories: OSV (https://osv.dev), from the GitHub Advisory Database, PyPA, Go, RustSec and other ecosystem databases, under CC-BY 4.0 or CC0","CVE records: the CVE Program's CVE List (https://www.cve.org), under its terms of use (https://www.cve.org/Legal/TermsOfUse).
