{"cve":"CVE-2026-14940","nvd":{"published":"2026-07-07T15:16:43.193","modified":"2026-07-09T20:20:52.007","status":"Analyzed","description":"A heap-buffer-overflow flaw was found in 389 Directory Server (389-ds-base). When\nnormalizing a Distinguished Name (DN) that contains a legacy-quoted value encoding a\nmultivalued nested Relative Distinguished Name (RDN), the server can write past the\nend of a heap allocation while sorting RDN attribute-value pairs. An unauthenticated\nremote attacker can trigger this condition by sending an LDAP operation whose DN\nreaches the DN normalization routine, such as a search with a crafted base DN. This\ncan corrupt heap memory and may cause denial of service.","cvss_v4":null,"cvss_v3":{"version":"3.1","vector":"CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:L/PR:N/UI:N/S:U/C:N/I:N/A:L","score":5.3},"cwes":["CWE-122"],"references":["https://access.redhat.com/security/cve/CVE-2026-14940","https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=2497697"],"products":["redhat:389_directory_server","redhat:directory_server","redhat:enterprise_linux"],"source":"nvd","synced_at":"2026-10-19T22:42:16.820116992+00:00"},"epss":{"cve":"CVE-2026-14940","score":0.00487,"percentile":0.41959,"date":"2026-10-31"},"kev":null,"osv":[],"attribution":["This product uses the NVD API but is not endorsed or certified by the NVD.","EPSS scores: FIRST Exploit Prediction Scoring System, https://www.first.org/epss","Known exploited vulnerabilities: CISA Known Exploited Vulnerabilities Catalog, https://www.cisa.gov/known-exploited-vulnerabilities-catalog","Package advisories: OSV (https://osv.dev), from the GitHub Advisory Database, PyPA, Go, RustSec and other ecosystem databases, under CC-BY 4.0 or CC0","CVE records: the CVE Program's CVE List (https://www.cve.org), under its terms of use (https://www.cve.org/Legal/TermsOfUse).
