{"cve":"CVE-2026-12252","nvd":{"published":"2026-07-04T02:16:23.603","modified":"2026-10-25T15:10:00.147","status":"Analyzed","description":"In nltk/nltk versions 3.9.3 and earlier, five Stanford interface classes (StanfordPOSTagger, StanfordNERTagger, StanfordParser, StanfordDependencyParser, and StanfordNeuralDependencyParser) are vulnerable to untrusted JAR code execution. These classes accept user-controllable JAR paths and execute them via the `java()` function, which invokes `subprocess.Popen()` without integrity verification. This vulnerability is identical to CVE-2026-0848, which was fixed for StanfordSegmenter by adding SHA256 verification. However, the fix was not applied to these additional classes, leaving them susceptible to arbitrary code execution when loading untrusted JAR files.","cvss_v4":null,"cvss_v3":{"version":"3.0","vector":"CVSS:3.0/AV:L/AC:L/PR:N/UI:R/S:U/C:H/I:H/A:H","score":7.8},"cwes":["CWE-94"],"references":["https://huntr.com/bounties/f5c93982-0cc9-4e2e-bb85-1b6ab29a2efb","https://huntr.com/bounties/f5c93982-0cc9-4e2e-bb85-1b6ab29a2efb"],"products":["nltk:nltk"],"source":"nvd","synced_at":"2026-10-25T17:50:06.907763985+00:00"},"epss":{"cve":"CVE-2026-12252","score":0.00195,"percentile":0.09055,"date":"2026-10-25"},"kev":null,"osv":[{"id":"GHSA-9r6g-266r-89x4","url":"https://osv.dev/vulnerability/GHSA-9r6g-266r-89x4","summary":"NLTK Stanford wrapper classes execute untrusted JAR files without verification","modified":"2026-10-02T18:55:37.071322102Z","packages":[{"ecosystem":"PyPI","name":"nltk","purl":"pkg:pypi/nltk","ranges":["<3.9.4"],"fixed":["3.9.4"]}]},{"id":"PYSEC-2026-2085","url":"https://osv.dev/vulnerability/PYSEC-2026-2085","summary":"","modified":"2026-10-15T14:45:11.790616373Z","packages":[{"ecosystem":"PyPI","name":"nltk","purl":"pkg:pypi/nltk","ranges":["<3.9.4"],"fixed":["3.9.4"]}]}],"attribution":["This product uses the NVD API but is not endorsed or certified by the NVD.","EPSS scores: FIRST Exploit Prediction Scoring System, https://www.first.org/epss","Known exploited vulnerabilities: CISA Known Exploited Vulnerabilities Catalog, https://www.cisa.gov/known-exploited-vulnerabilities-catalog","Package advisories: OSV (https://osv.dev), from the GitHub Advisory Database, PyPA, Go, RustSec and other ecosystem databases, under CC-BY 4.0 or CC0","CVE records: the CVE Program's CVE List (https://www.cve.org), under its terms of use (https://www.cve.org/Legal/TermsOfUse).
