{"cve":"CVE-2026-11816","nvd":{"published":"2026-06-11T14:16:26.557","modified":"2026-10-26T11:10:00.157","status":"Modified","description":"Keras versions prior to 3.14.0 are vulnerable to a path traversal issue in the archive extraction utilities located in `keras/src/utils/file_utils.py`. The functions `filter_safe_tarinfos()` and `filter_safe_zipinfos()` validate archive member paths against the process current working directory (CWD) instead of the actual extraction destination. When the process runs with CWD set to `/`, which is common in Docker containers, CI/CD runners, and Jupyter environments, the validation boundary becomes the filesystem root, allowing traversal paths to bypass the security check. Additionally, the zip filter contains a bug that causes an `AttributeError` when a blocked entry is encountered, leading to incomplete extraction. Furthermore, Python 3.11 installations lack the `filter=\"data\"` safety net, leaving them entirely reliant on the flawed CWD-based filter. Exploitation of this vulnerability can result in arbitrary file writes outside the intended extraction directory, enabling attackers to overwrite configuration files, inject malicious code, or corrupt machine learning datasets and pipelines.","cvss_v4":null,"cvss_v3":{"version":"3.1","vector":"CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:L/PR:N/UI:R/S:U/C:H/I:H/A:N","score":8.1},"cwes":["CWE-22"],"references":["https://github.com/keras-team/keras/commit/2465b6657b02c8eed308759b7e800e295ae01888","https://huntr.com/bounties/a07e3983-7158-4419-af2b-38f1dea01a4f","https://access.redhat.com/errata/RHSA-2026:42644","https://access.redhat.com/security/cve/CVE-2026-11816","https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=2487912"],"products":["keras:keras"],"source":"nvd","synced_at":"2026-10-26T11:33:08.859761529+00:00"},"epss":{"cve":"CVE-2026-11816","score":0.00563,"percentile":0.46564,"date":"2026-10-25"},"kev":null,"osv":[{"id":"GHSA-hqp4-2352-xf5r","url":"https://osv.dev/vulnerability/GHSA-hqp4-2352-xf5r","summary":"Keras archive extraction utilities allow path traversal and arbitrary file writes","modified":"2026-08-07T20:25:31.001239657Z","packages":[{"ecosystem":"PyPI","name":"keras","purl":"pkg:pypi/keras","ranges":["<3.14.0"],"fixed":["3.14.0"]}]},{"id":"PYSEC-2026-2324","url":"https://osv.dev/vulnerability/PYSEC-2026-2324","summary":"","modified":"2026-08-10T11:01:44.730654Z","packages":[{"ecosystem":"PyPI","name":"keras","purl":"pkg:pypi/keras","ranges":["<3.14.0"],"fixed":["3.14.0"]}]}],"attribution":["This product uses the NVD API but is not endorsed or certified by the NVD.","EPSS scores: FIRST Exploit Prediction Scoring System, https://www.first.org/epss","Known exploited vulnerabilities: CISA Known Exploited Vulnerabilities Catalog, https://www.cisa.gov/known-exploited-vulnerabilities-catalog","Package advisories: OSV (https://osv.dev), from the GitHub Advisory Database, PyPA, Go, RustSec and other ecosystem databases, under CC-BY 4.0 or CC0","CVE records: the CVE Program's CVE List (https://www.cve.org), under its terms of use (https://www.cve.org/Legal/TermsOfUse).
