{"cve":"CVE-2026-114136","nvd":{"published":"2026-10-21T20:17:25.557","modified":"2026-10-22T17:21:57.293","status":"Awaiting Analysis","description":"Django REST framework is a toolkit for building Web APIs. From 3.6.4 until 3.18.2, JSONParser.parse in rest_framework/parsers.py uses the client-supplied Content-Type charset value with codecs.getreader, which accepts byte-transform codecs such as bz2_codec rather than only text encodings. A remote unauthenticated client can therefore cause a compressed JSON request body to be expanded after Django has enforced DATA_UPLOAD_MAX_MEMORY_SIZE against only the wire bytes, allowing a very small request to consume substantial per-worker memory. The default parser set is sufficient, and any reachable endpoint that accepts a JSON body is affected. This issue is fixed in version 3.18.2.","cvss_v4":null,"cvss_v3":{"version":"3.1","vector":"CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:L/PR:N/UI:N/S:U/C:N/I:N/A:H","score":7.5},"cwes":["CWE-409","CWE-770"],"references":["https://github.com/encode/django-rest-framework/commit/3c2634599b26a9f789b03045118dbc276117611a","https://github.com/encode/django-rest-framework/releases/tag/3.18.2","https://github.com/encode/django-rest-framework/security/advisories/GHSA-3547-9m27-7rxg"],"products":[],"source":"nvd","synced_at":"2026-10-23T16:39:28.036610720+00:00"},"epss":{"cve":"CVE-2026-114136","score":0.0044,"percentile":0.37981,"date":"2026-10-25"},"kev":null,"osv":[{"id":"GHSA-3547-9m27-7rxg","url":"https://osv.dev/vulnerability/GHSA-3547-9m27-7rxg","summary":"Django REST framework: JSONParser applies an attacker-named codec to the request stream","modified":"2026-10-22T16:30:29.914382203Z","packages":[{"ecosystem":"PyPI","name":"djangorestframework","purl":"pkg:pypi/djangorestframework","ranges":[">=3.6.4 <3.18.2"],"fixed":["3.18.2"]}]}],"attribution":["This product uses the NVD API but is not endorsed or certified by the NVD.","EPSS scores: FIRST Exploit Prediction Scoring System, https://www.first.org/epss","Known exploited vulnerabilities: CISA Known Exploited Vulnerabilities Catalog, https://www.cisa.gov/known-exploited-vulnerabilities-catalog","Package advisories: OSV (https://osv.dev), from the GitHub Advisory Database, PyPA, Go, RustSec and other ecosystem databases, under CC-BY 4.0 or CC0","CVE records: the CVE Program's CVE List (https://www.cve.org), under its terms of use (https://www.cve.org/Legal/TermsOfUse).
