Prior to 21.14.7, the bash activate script escapes the environment name for only one of the two passes bash makes over PS1, so a backslash in the name undoes the escaping and a name containing \\$(...) runs as commands in the user's shell each time bash draws the prompt. This issue is fixed in version 21.14.7.","cvss_v4":null,"cvss_v3":{"version":"3.1","vector":"CVSS:3.1/AV:L/AC:L/PR:N/UI:R/S:U/C:H/I:H/A:H","score":7.8},"cwes":["CWE-78","CWE-116"],"references":["https://github.com/pypa/virtualenv/commit/c3104e02474b652832a9bbaae79f6e1696296932","https://github.com/pypa/virtualenv/releases/tag/21.14.7","https://github.com/pypa/virtualenv/security/advisories/GHSA-vxj4-q4g9-crj7"],"products":[],"source":"nvd","synced_at":"2026-10-23T16:39:26.291718493+00:00"},"epss":{"cve":"CVE-2026-113725","score":0.00193,"percentile":0.08858,"date":"2026-10-26"},"kev":null,"osv":[{"id":"GHSA-vxj4-q4g9-crj7","url":"https://osv.dev/vulnerability/GHSA-vxj4-q4g9-crj7","summary":"virtualenv bash activate runs commands from an environment name with a backslash before $","modified":"2026-10-21T17:00:07.625742581Z","packages":[{"ecosystem":"PyPI","name":"virtualenv","purl":"pkg:pypi/virtualenv","ranges":["<21.14.7"],"fixed":["21.14.7"]}]}],"attribution":["This product uses the NVD API but is not endorsed or certified by the NVD.","EPSS scores: FIRST Exploit Prediction Scoring System, https://www.first.org/epss","Known exploited vulnerabilities: CISA Known Exploited Vulnerabilities Catalog, https://www.cisa.gov/known-exploited-vulnerabilities-catalog","Package advisories: OSV (https://osv.dev), from the GitHub Advisory Database, PyPA, Go, RustSec and other ecosystem databases, under CC-BY 4.0 or CC0","CVE records: the CVE Program's CVE List (https://www.cve.org), under its terms of use (https://www.cve.org/Legal/TermsOfUse).
