{"cve":"CVE-2026-113720","nvd":{"published":"2026-10-20T20:17:18.493","modified":"2026-10-22T16:47:38.403","status":"Awaiting Analysis","description":"virtualenv is a tool for creating isolated virtual python environments. Prior to 21.14.9, the app-data copy seeder uses shutil.copy() to copy cached package files into later environments, causing cached source modes to override the current run's umask. A cache populated under a permissive umask can therefore produce files writable by another local account in a later traversable environment, allowing package code such as pip/__init__.py to be modified and executed by the environment owner. The attacker cannot force the earlier umask, and a private destination parent prevents access. This issue is fixed in version 21.14.9.","cvss_v4":{"vector":"CVSS:4.0/AV:L/AC:H/AT:P/PR:L/UI:P/VC:L/VI:H/VA:L/SC:N/SI:N/SA:N","score":4.4},"cvss_v3":null,"cwes":["CWE-732"],"references":["https://github.com/pypa/virtualenv/commit/35f0b33562790176dd186d0a3c517af3acc7a0e1","https://github.com/pypa/virtualenv/pull/3425","https://github.com/pypa/virtualenv/releases/tag/21.14.9","https://github.com/pypa/virtualenv/security/advisories/GHSA-fc2g-4w5p-6whm"],"products":[],"source":"nvd","synced_at":"2026-10-23T16:39:26.291718493+00:00"},"epss":{"cve":"CVE-2026-113720","score":0.00134,"percentile":0.02845,"date":"2026-10-25"},"kev":null,"osv":[{"id":"GHSA-fc2g-4w5p-6whm","url":"https://osv.dev/vulnerability/GHSA-fc2g-4w5p-6whm","summary":"virtualenv: Seeded files retain permissions from an older cache","modified":"2026-10-23T22:30:04.127331967Z","packages":[{"ecosystem":"PyPI","name":"virtualenv","purl":"pkg:pypi/virtualenv","ranges":["<21.14.9"],"fixed":["21.14.9"]}]}],"attribution":["This product uses the NVD API but is not endorsed or certified by the NVD.","EPSS scores: FIRST Exploit Prediction Scoring System, https://www.first.org/epss","Known exploited vulnerabilities: CISA Known Exploited Vulnerabilities Catalog, https://www.cisa.gov/known-exploited-vulnerabilities-catalog","Package advisories: OSV (https://osv.dev), from the GitHub Advisory Database, PyPA, Go, RustSec and other ecosystem databases, under CC-BY 4.0 or CC0","CVE records: the CVE Program's CVE List (https://www.cve.org), under its terms of use (https://www.cve.org/Legal/TermsOfUse).
