{"cve":"CVE-2026-113718","nvd":{"published":"2026-10-20T20:17:18.197","modified":"2026-10-22T16:47:38.403","status":"Awaiting Analysis","description":"virtualenv is a tool for creating isolated virtual python environments. Prior to 21.14.9, POSIX xonsh activation quote() uses repr() to write printable non-ASCII prompt or destination data into UTF-8 activate.xsh, while xonsh can read that script using $XONSH_ENCODING. Under a legacy multibyte codec such as GBK or Big5, a UTF-8 trail byte can consume the backslash before an adjacent quote, allowing the literal to close and attacker-influenced statements to execute when the user sources the generated script. This issue is fixed in version 21.14.9.","cvss_v4":{"vector":"CVSS:4.0/AV:L/AC:H/AT:P/PR:N/UI:A/VC:H/VI:H/VA:H/SC:N/SI:N/SA:N","score":7.1},"cvss_v3":null,"cwes":["CWE-94"],"references":["https://github.com/pypa/virtualenv/commit/e5fc2e6e189a877ff559af288919e3525d13e5e0","https://github.com/pypa/virtualenv/pull/3432","https://github.com/pypa/virtualenv/releases/tag/21.14.9","https://github.com/pypa/virtualenv/security/advisories/GHSA-394h-qwmc-48pf"],"products":[],"source":"nvd","synced_at":"2026-10-23T16:39:26.291718493+00:00"},"epss":{"cve":"CVE-2026-113718","score":0.00177,"percentile":0.07253,"date":"2026-10-25"},"kev":null,"osv":[{"id":"GHSA-394h-qwmc-48pf","url":"https://osv.dev/vulnerability/GHSA-394h-qwmc-48pf","summary":"virtualenv: Xonsh activation literals depend on the script decoding codec","modified":"2026-10-23T22:30:04.122612003Z","packages":[{"ecosystem":"PyPI","name":"virtualenv","purl":"pkg:pypi/virtualenv","ranges":["<21.14.9"],"fixed":["21.14.9"]}]}],"attribution":["This product uses the NVD API but is not endorsed or certified by the NVD.","EPSS scores: FIRST Exploit Prediction Scoring System, https://www.first.org/epss","Known exploited vulnerabilities: CISA Known Exploited Vulnerabilities Catalog, https://www.cisa.gov/known-exploited-vulnerabilities-catalog","Package advisories: OSV (https://osv.dev), from the GitHub Advisory Database, PyPA, Go, RustSec and other ecosystem databases, under CC-BY 4.0 or CC0","CVE records: the CVE Program's CVE List (https://www.cve.org), under its terms of use (https://www.cve.org/Legal/TermsOfUse).
