From 3.20.4 until 4.2.1, ReadWriteLock let SQLite reopen the database and side files by name; on POSIX systems an attacker with rename access in a non-sticky parent can swap those names to cause overwrite or unlink operations, while a writable adjacent hot journal is additionally required for attacker-chosen content overwrites. This issue is fixed in version 4.2.1.","cvss_v4":null,"cvss_v3":{"version":"3.1","vector":"CVSS:3.1/AV:L/AC:L/PR:L/UI:N/S:U/C:N/I:H/A:H","score":7.1},"cwes":["CWE-59","CWE-363"],"references":["https://github.com/tox-dev/filelock/commit/5e3f2ec0c5fb17cb2635b60b2b68bc63ab81ca2d","https://github.com/tox-dev/filelock/pull/834","https://github.com/tox-dev/filelock/releases/tag/4.2.1","https://github.com/tox-dev/filelock/security/advisories/GHSA-v4x8-3wr5-3wq8","https://github.com/tox-dev/filelock/security/advisories/GHSA-v4x8-3wr5-3wq8"],"products":["tox-dev:filelock"],"source":"nvd","synced_at":"2026-10-23T16:39:26.291718493+00:00"},"epss":{"cve":"CVE-2026-112940","score":0.0019,"percentile":0.08619,"date":"2026-10-25"},"kev":null,"osv":[{"id":"GHSA-v4x8-3wr5-3wq8","url":"https://osv.dev/vulnerability/GHSA-v4x8-3wr5-3wq8","summary":"filelock ReadWriteLock: SQLite reopens the lock database by name, so a planted symlink or journal file makes the lock user's process overwrite or unlink its own files","modified":"2026-10-23T22:15:04.432475030Z","packages":[{"ecosystem":"PyPI","name":"filelock","purl":"pkg:pypi/filelock","ranges":[">=3.20.4 <4.2.1"],"fixed":["4.2.1"]}]}],"attribution":["This product uses the NVD API but is not endorsed or certified by the NVD.","EPSS scores: FIRST Exploit Prediction Scoring System, https://www.first.org/epss","Known exploited vulnerabilities: CISA Known Exploited Vulnerabilities Catalog, https://www.cisa.gov/known-exploited-vulnerabilities-catalog","Package advisories: OSV (https://osv.dev), from the GitHub Advisory Database, PyPA, Go, RustSec and other ecosystem databases, under CC-BY 4.0 or CC0","CVE records: the CVE Program's CVE List (https://www.cve.org), under its terms of use (https://www.cve.org/Legal/TermsOfUse).
