From 4.1.0 until 4.2.1, SoftFileLock versions from 4.1.0 can reuse a stale observation when an attacker pre-dates and removes its own marker, at least two lock-user processes are waiting, coarse or matching modification times preserve the observation, and an honest contender creates a fresh marker on the reused inode, causing that live marker to be removed as stale. This issue is fixed in version 4.2.1.","cvss_v4":null,"cvss_v3":{"version":"3.1","vector":"CVSS:3.1/AV:L/AC:H/PR:L/UI:N/S:U/C:N/I:H/A:N","score":4.7},"cwes":["CWE-694"],"references":["https://github.com/tox-dev/filelock/commit/740ff666b62a88496c8d7394e4e6230605e4d62b","https://github.com/tox-dev/filelock/releases/tag/4.2.1","https://github.com/tox-dev/filelock/security/advisories/GHSA-2g95-wg33-c5x2","https://github.com/tox-dev/filelock/security/advisories/GHSA-2g95-wg33-c5x2"],"products":[],"source":"nvd","synced_at":"2026-10-21T03:56:58.798400159+00:00"},"epss":{"cve":"CVE-2026-112906","score":0.00206,"percentile":0.10477,"date":"2026-10-25"},"kev":null,"osv":[{"id":"GHSA-2g95-wg33-c5x2","url":"https://osv.dev/vulnerability/GHSA-2g95-wg33-c5x2","summary":"filelock: SoftFileLock evicts a fresh lock file whose watched age another local user's pre-dated file passed on through inode reuse","modified":"2026-10-23T22:15:03.540155022Z","packages":[{"ecosystem":"PyPI","name":"filelock","purl":"pkg:pypi/filelock","ranges":[">=4.1.0 <4.2.1"],"fixed":["4.2.1"]}]}],"attribution":["This product uses the NVD API but is not endorsed or certified by the NVD.","EPSS scores: FIRST Exploit Prediction Scoring System, https://www.first.org/epss","Known exploited vulnerabilities: CISA Known Exploited Vulnerabilities Catalog, https://www.cisa.gov/known-exploited-vulnerabilities-catalog","Package advisories: OSV (https://osv.dev), from the GitHub Advisory Database, PyPA, Go, RustSec and other ecosystem databases, under CC-BY 4.0 or CC0","CVE records: the CVE Program's CVE List (https://www.cve.org), under its terms of use (https://www.cve.org/Legal/TermsOfUse).
