{"cve":"CVE-2026-106440","nvd":{"published":"2026-10-06T19:18:12.877","modified":"2026-10-09T02:16:59.577","status":"Awaiting Analysis","description":"Hydra is a framework for elegantly configuring complex applications. From 1.2.0 until 1.3.0 and 1.4.0.dev10, the hydra-optuna-sweeper package accepts a configuration-controlled dotted path in hydra.sweeper.custom_search_space, resolves it with hydra.utils.get_method(), and later invokes the returned callable in the Hydra controller process. Because get_method() is a trusted-input lookup helper and does not apply the execution policy used by instantiate(), an attacker who controls Optuna sweep configuration or command-line overrides can select importable Python code for execution with the application's privileges, including bypassing a trusted execution whitelist on affected Hydra 1.4 development releases. This issue is fixed in versions 1.3.0 and 1.4.0.dev10.","cvss_v4":null,"cvss_v3":{"version":"3.1","vector":"CVSS:3.1/AV:L/AC:L/PR:N/UI:R/S:U/C:H/I:H/A:H","score":7.8},"cwes":["CWE-470"],"references":["https://github.com/hydra-ecosystem/hydra/commit/0dd18084589a3d3e577d1f1a8a48fb485c94a5e6","https://github.com/hydra-ecosystem/hydra/commit/4720dfca2bde27fa140ec287a05709668fbdf168","https://github.com/hydra-ecosystem/hydra/releases/tag/v1.3.7","https://github.com/hydra-ecosystem/hydra/security/advisories/GHSA-5jjj-9xc3-rm56"],"products":[],"source":"nvd","synced_at":"2026-10-19T22:58:01.639778232+00:00"},"epss":{"cve":"CVE-2026-106440","score":0.00271,"percentile":0.19102,"date":"2026-10-25"},"kev":null,"osv":[{"id":"GHSA-5jjj-9xc3-rm56","url":"https://osv.dev/vulnerability/GHSA-5jjj-9xc3-rm56","summary":"Hydra: Optuna custom_search_space can resolve and execute untrusted callables via get_method","modified":"2026-10-15T14:55:49.075978668Z","packages":[{"ecosystem":"PyPI","name":"hydra-optuna-sweeper","purl":"pkg:pypi/hydra-optuna-sweeper","ranges":[">=1.2.0 <1.3.0"],"fixed":["1.3.0"]},{"ecosystem":"PyPI","name":"hydra-optuna-sweeper","purl":"pkg:pypi/hydra-optuna-sweeper","ranges":[">=1.4.0.dev4 <1.4.0.dev10"],"fixed":["1.4.0.dev10"]}]},{"id":"PYSEC-2026-4224","url":"https://osv.dev/vulnerability/PYSEC-2026-4224","summary":"Hydra: Optuna custom_search_space can resolve and execute untrusted callables via get_method","modified":"2026-10-15T14:45:06.557622339Z","packages":[{"ecosystem":"PyPI","name":"hydra-optuna-sweeper","purl":"pkg:pypi/hydra-optuna-sweeper","ranges":[">=1.2.0 <1.3.0",">=1.4.0.dev4 <1.4.0.dev10"],"fixed":["1.3.0","1.4.0.dev10"]}]}],"attribution":["This product uses the NVD API but is not endorsed or certified by the NVD.","EPSS scores: FIRST Exploit Prediction Scoring System, https://www.first.org/epss","Known exploited vulnerabilities: CISA Known Exploited Vulnerabilities Catalog, https://www.cisa.gov/known-exploited-vulnerabilities-catalog","Package advisories: OSV (https://osv.dev), from the GitHub Advisory Database, PyPA, Go, RustSec and other ecosystem databases, under CC-BY 4.0 or CC0","CVE records: the CVE Program's CVE List (https://www.cve.org), under its terms of use (https://www.cve.org/Legal/TermsOfUse).
