{"cve":"CVE-2026-104872","nvd":{"published":"2026-10-02T20:17:01.067","modified":"2026-10-06T17:17:16.147","status":"Awaiting Analysis","description":"OpenTelemetry JavaScript Contrib provides instrumentation libraries for collecting telemetry from JavaScript applications. Prior to versions 0.66.0 of @opentelemetry/instrumentation-cassandra-driver, 0.65.0 of @opentelemetry/instrumentation-knex, 0.67.0 of @opentelemetry/instrumentation-mongoose, @opentelemetry/instrumentation-mysql, and @opentelemetry/instrumentation-mysql2, 0.46.0 of @opentelemetry/instrumentation-oracledb, 0.73.0 of @opentelemetry/instrumentation-pg, and 0.40.0 of @opentelemetry/instrumentation-tedious, the packages add the database connection username to every instrumented database operation as the db.user span attribute. The attribute is emitted by default and is not controlled by enhancedDatabaseReporting or another opt-in setting. Configured observability backends therefore receive database account names that may expose service topology, role or environment information, and account naming patterns. This issue is fixed in versions 0.66.0, 0.65.0, 0.67.0, 0.46.0, 0.73.0, and 0.40.0 of the respective packages.","cvss_v4":null,"cvss_v3":{"version":"3.1","vector":"CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:L/PR:N/UI:N/S:C/C:L/I:N/A:N","score":5.8},"cwes":["CWE-532"],"references":["https://github.com/open-telemetry/opentelemetry-js-contrib/commit/27e172a9e0d549559056ccd58f27d13467454156","https://github.com/open-telemetry/opentelemetry-js-contrib/commit/5b7dd0e102e940d653e04b08b5a1b721a8271037","https://github.com/open-telemetry/opentelemetry-js-contrib/pull/3585","https://github.com/open-telemetry/opentelemetry-js-contrib/security/advisories/GHSA-qqmp-wf37-98f9"],"products":[],"source":"nvd","synced_at":"2026-10-19T22:57:46.668721662+00:00"},"epss":{"cve":"CVE-2026-104872","score":0.00244,"percentile":0.15505,"date":"2026-10-25"},"kev":null,"osv":[{"id":"GHSA-qqmp-wf37-98f9","url":"https://osv.dev/vulnerability/GHSA-qqmp-wf37-98f9","summary":"Multiple @opentelemetry/instrumentation-* packages expose database username via unconditional db.user span attribute","modified":"2026-10-05T23:00:05.311085601Z","packages":[{"ecosystem":"npm","name":"@opentelemetry/instrumentation-cassandra-driver","purl":"pkg:npm/%40opentelemetry/instrumentation-cassandra-driver","ranges":["<0.66.0"],"fixed":["0.66.0"]},{"ecosystem":"npm","name":"@opentelemetry/instrumentation-tedious","purl":"pkg:npm/%40opentelemetry/instrumentation-tedious","ranges":["<0.40.0"],"fixed":["0.40.0"]},{"ecosystem":"npm","name":"@opentelemetry/instrumentation-oracledb","purl":"pkg:npm/%40opentelemetry/instrumentation-oracledb","ranges":["<0.46.0"],"fixed":["0.46.0"]},{"ecosystem":"npm","name":"@opentelemetry/instrumentation-mongoose","purl":"pkg:npm/%40opentelemetry/instrumentation-mongoose","ranges":["<0.67.0"],"fixed":["0.67.0"]},{"ecosystem":"npm","name":"@opentelemetry/instrumentation-mysql","purl":"pkg:npm/%40opentelemetry/instrumentation-mysql","ranges":["<0.67.0"],"fixed":["0.67.0"]},{"ecosystem":"npm","name":"@opentelemetry/instrumentation-knex","purl":"pkg:npm/%40opentelemetry/instrumentation-knex","ranges":["<0.65.0"],"fixed":["0.65.0"]},{"ecosystem":"npm","name":"@opentelemetry/instrumentation-mysql2","purl":"pkg:npm/%40opentelemetry/instrumentation-mysql2","ranges":["<0.67.0"],"fixed":["0.67.0"]},{"ecosystem":"npm","name":"@opentelemetry/instrumentation-pg","purl":"pkg:npm/%40opentelemetry/instrumentation-pg","ranges":["<0.73.0"],"fixed":["0.73.0"]}]}],"attribution":["This product uses the NVD API but is not endorsed or certified by the NVD.","EPSS scores: FIRST Exploit Prediction Scoring System, https://www.first.org/epss","Known exploited vulnerabilities: CISA Known Exploited Vulnerabilities Catalog, https://www.cisa.gov/known-exploited-vulnerabilities-catalog","Package advisories: OSV (https://osv.dev), from the GitHub Advisory Database, PyPA, Go, RustSec and other ecosystem databases, under CC-BY 4.0 or CC0","CVE records: the CVE Program's CVE List (https://www.cve.org), under its terms of use (https://www.cve.org/Legal/TermsOfUse).
