{"cve":"CVE-2026-103680","nvd":{"published":"2026-10-01T12:17:15.810","modified":"2026-10-05T13:42:10.633","status":"Analyzed","description":"A flaw was found in tnef. A heap-based buffer overflow can occur in the find_free_number() function when generating numbered backup suffixes for duplicate filenames. When numbered backups are enabled and file overwriting is disabled, an attacker can supply a specially crafted Transport Neutral Encapsulation Format (TNEF) file with an excessive number of colliding attachment filenames, causing the numeric counter to write past the allocated memory buffer. This issue may result in an application crash, leading to a Denial of Service (DoS), or potentially arbitrary code execution.","cvss_v4":null,"cvss_v3":{"version":"3.1","vector":"CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:L/PR:N/UI:R/S:U/C:N/I:N/A:H","score":6.5},"cwes":["CWE-787"],"references":["https://access.redhat.com/security/cve/CVE-2026-103680","https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=2544478","https://github.com/verdammelt/tnef"],"products":["tnef_project:tnef"],"source":"nvd","synced_at":"2026-10-19T22:57:46.668721662+00:00"},"epss":{"cve":"CVE-2026-103680","score":0.00322,"percentile":0.24959,"date":"2026-10-25"},"kev":null,"osv":[],"attribution":["This product uses the NVD API but is not endorsed or certified by the NVD.","EPSS scores: FIRST Exploit Prediction Scoring System, https://www.first.org/epss","Known exploited vulnerabilities: CISA Known Exploited Vulnerabilities Catalog, https://www.cisa.gov/known-exploited-vulnerabilities-catalog","Package advisories: OSV (https://osv.dev), from the GitHub Advisory Database, PyPA, Go, RustSec and other ecosystem databases, under CC-BY 4.0 or CC0","CVE records: the CVE Program's CVE List (https://www.cve.org), under its terms of use (https://www.cve.org/Legal/TermsOfUse).
