{"cve":"CVE-2026-103501","nvd":{"published":"2026-10-10T11:17:34.853","modified":"2026-10-16T16:16:53.233","status":"Undergoing Analysis","description":"Heap buffer overflow in the HLL sketch deserialization of Apache DataSketches C++ (repo: datasketches-cpp).\n\nWhen deserializing a sketch in LIST mode, from either a byte buffer or a stream, the coupon count was read from the input and used as the number of entries to copy into a fixed buffer of 8 entries, without checking it against the buffer's capacity. A crafted sketch could cause a write of up to 988 bytes past the end of this internal heap buffer. This can corrupt heap memory, causing a crash and potentially enabling further exploitation.\n\nThis issue affects Apache DataSketches C++: from 1.0.0-incubating before 5.3.0. Only applications that deserialize HLL sketches from untrusted sources are affected.\n\nUsers are recommended to upgrade to version 5.3.0, which fixes this issue.","cvss_v4":null,"cvss_v3":{"version":"3.1","vector":"CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:L/PR:N/UI:N/S:U/C:H/I:H/A:H","score":9.8},"cwes":["CWE-122","CWE-1284"],"references":["https://github.com/apache/datasketches-cpp/releases/tag/5.3.0","https://lists.apache.org/thread/n2oc2j841dzsv4239jjp08of66bo79c5","http://www.openwall.com/lists/oss-security/2026/10/10/2"],"products":[],"source":"nvd","synced_at":"2026-10-19T22:58:01.639778232+00:00"},"epss":{"cve":"CVE-2026-103501","score":0.00555,"percentile":0.46044,"date":"2026-10-25"},"kev":null,"osv":[],"attribution":["This product uses the NVD API but is not endorsed or certified by the NVD.","EPSS scores: FIRST Exploit Prediction Scoring System, https://www.first.org/epss","Known exploited vulnerabilities: CISA Known Exploited Vulnerabilities Catalog, https://www.cisa.gov/known-exploited-vulnerabilities-catalog","Package advisories: OSV (https://osv.dev), from the GitHub Advisory Database, PyPA, Go, RustSec and other ecosystem databases, under CC-BY 4.0 or CC0","CVE records: the CVE Program's CVE List (https://www.cve.org), under its terms of use (https://www.cve.org/Legal/TermsOfUse).
