{"cve":"CVE-2026-100841","nvd":{"published":"2026-09-27T02:17:22.543","modified":"2026-09-30T17:50:08.300","status":"Analyzed","description":"In MONAI 1.6.0, PersistentDataset (monai/data/dataset.py) explicitly rejects the combination track_meta=True with weights_only=True, forcing users who cache MetaTensors (the default tensor type in MONAI >= 1.0) to run torch.load(hashfile, weights_only=False). Related cache helpers in monai/data/utils.py also call pickle.loads on cached content and derive cache keys with hashlib.md5. As a result, a local user with write access to a shared or world-writable cache_dir (e.g. /tmp/monai_cache, HPC scratch, ~/.cache/monai) can place a malicious pickle file that is deserialized the next time another user's MONAI pipeline reads the cache, resulting in arbitrary code execution in that user's context. All released versions of the monai pip package are affected; no patched version is available as of the advisory.","cvss_v4":{"vector":"CVSS:4.0/AV:L/AC:L/AT:N/PR:L/UI:N/VC:H/VI:H/VA:H/SC:N/SI:N/SA:N","score":8.5},"cvss_v3":{"version":"3.1","vector":"CVSS:3.1/AV:L/AC:L/PR:L/UI:N/S:U/C:H/I:H/A:H","score":7.8},"cwes":["CWE-502"],"references":["https://github.com/Project-MONAI/MONAI/security/advisories/GHSA-636w-j999-g7x5","https://www.vulncheck.com/advisories/monai-1.6.0-persistentdataset-remote-code-execution-via-pickle-cache"],"products":["project-monai:monai"],"source":"nvd","synced_at":"2026-10-19T22:56:48.555445741+00:00"},"epss":{"cve":"CVE-2026-100841","score":0.00128,"percentile":0.02411,"date":"2026-10-25"},"kev":null,"osv":[{"id":"PYSEC-2026-4016","url":"https://osv.dev/vulnerability/PYSEC-2026-4016","summary":"","modified":"2026-10-01T09:15:05.391254788Z","packages":[{"ecosystem":"PyPI","name":"monai","purl":"pkg:pypi/monai","ranges":["<=1.6.0-NA"],"fixed":[]}]}],"attribution":["This product uses the NVD API but is not endorsed or certified by the NVD.","EPSS scores: FIRST Exploit Prediction Scoring System, https://www.first.org/epss","Known exploited vulnerabilities: CISA Known Exploited Vulnerabilities Catalog, https://www.cisa.gov/known-exploited-vulnerabilities-catalog","Package advisories: OSV (https://osv.dev), from the GitHub Advisory Database, PyPA, Go, RustSec and other ecosystem databases, under CC-BY 4.0 or CC0","CVE records: the CVE Program's CVE List (https://www.cve.org), under its terms of use (https://www.cve.org/Legal/TermsOfUse).
