{"cve":"CVE-2025-68119","nvd":{"published":"2026-01-28T20:16:11.443","modified":"2026-06-17T09:58:33.560","status":"Analyzed","description":"Downloading and building modules with malicious version strings can cause local code execution. On systems with Mercurial (hg) installed, downloading modules from non-standard sources (e.g., custom domains) can cause unexpected code execution due to how external VCS commands are constructed. This issue can also be triggered by providing a malicious version string to the toolchain. On systems with Git installed, downloading and building modules with malicious version strings can allow an attacker to write to arbitrary files on the filesystem. This can only be triggered by explicitly providing the malicious version strings to the toolchain and does not affect usage of @latest or bare module paths.","cvss_v4":null,"cvss_v3":{"version":"3.1","vector":"CVSS:3.1/AV:L/AC:H/PR:L/UI:N/S:U/C:H/I:H/A:H","score":7.0},"cwes":["CWE-787"],"references":["https://go.dev/cl/736710","https://go.dev/issue/77099","https://groups.google.com/g/golang-announce/c/Vd2tYVM8eUc","https://pkg.go.dev/vuln/GO-2026-4338"],"products":["golang:go"],"source":"nvd","synced_at":"2026-10-19T22:22:27.261130201+00:00"},"epss":{"cve":"CVE-2025-68119","score":0.00375,"percentile":0.3154,"date":"2026-10-31"},"kev":null,"osv":[{"id":"GO-2026-4338","url":"https://osv.dev/vulnerability/GO-2026-4338","summary":"Unexpected code execution when invoking toolchain in cmd/go","modified":"2026-05-15T10:59:22.805158994Z","packages":[{"ecosystem":"Go","name":"toolchain","purl":"pkg:golang/toolchain","ranges":[">=1.25.0 <1.25.6"],"fixed":["1.25.6"]}]}],"attribution":["This product uses the NVD API but is not endorsed or certified by the NVD.","EPSS scores: FIRST Exploit Prediction Scoring System, https://www.first.org/epss","Known exploited vulnerabilities: CISA Known Exploited Vulnerabilities Catalog, https://www.cisa.gov/known-exploited-vulnerabilities-catalog","Package advisories: OSV (https://osv.dev), from the GitHub Advisory Database, PyPA, Go, RustSec and other ecosystem databases, under CC-BY 4.0 or CC0","CVE records: the CVE Program's CVE List (https://www.cve.org), under its terms of use (https://www.cve.org/Legal/TermsOfUse).
