{"cve":"CVE-2025-64512","nvd":{"published":"2025-11-10T22:15:40.067","modified":"2026-06-17T09:54:29.500","status":"Modified","description":"Pdfminer.six is a community maintained fork of the original PDFMiner, a tool for extracting information from PDF documents. Prior to version 20251107, pdfminer.six will execute arbitrary code from a malicious pickle file if provided with a malicious PDF file. The `CMapDB._load_data()` function in pdfminer.six uses `pickle.loads()` to deserialize pickle files. These pickle files are supposed to be part of the pdfminer.six distribution stored in the `cmap/` directory, but a malicious PDF can specify an alternative directory and filename as long as the filename ends in `.pickle.gz`. A malicious, zipped pickle file can then contain code which will automatically execute when the PDF is processed. Version 20251107 fixes the issue.","cvss_v4":null,"cvss_v3":{"version":"3.1","vector":"CVSS:3.1/AV:L/AC:L/PR:N/UI:R/S:U/C:H/I:H/A:H","score":7.8},"cwes":["CWE-502"],"references":["https://github.com/pdfminer/pdfminer.six/commit/b808ee05dd7f0c8ea8ec34bdf394d40e63501086","https://github.com/pdfminer/pdfminer.six/releases/tag/20251107","https://github.com/pdfminer/pdfminer.six/security/advisories/GHSA-wf5f-4jwr-ppcp","https://lists.debian.org/debian-lts-announce/2025/11/msg00017.html","https://lists.debian.org/debian-lts-announce/2026/01/msg00005.html"],"products":["debian:debian_linux","pdfminer:pdfminer.six"],"source":"nvd","synced_at":"2026-10-19T22:14:53.307938015+00:00"},"epss":{"cve":"CVE-2025-64512","score":0.00334,"percentile":0.26806,"date":"2026-10-31"},"kev":null,"osv":[{"id":"GHSA-wf5f-4jwr-ppcp","url":"https://osv.dev/vulnerability/GHSA-wf5f-4jwr-ppcp","summary":"Arbitrary Code Execution in pdfminer.six via Crafted PDF Input","modified":"2026-07-07T17:56:32.052583560Z","packages":[{"ecosystem":"PyPI","name":"pdfminer-six","purl":"pkg:pypi/pdfminer-six","ranges":["<20251107"],"fixed":["20251107"]}]},{"id":"PYSEC-2026-1762","url":"https://osv.dev/vulnerability/PYSEC-2026-1762","summary":"Arbitrary Code Execution in pdfminer.six via Crafted PDF Input","modified":"2026-07-07T17:47:47.854443886Z","packages":[{"ecosystem":"PyPI","name":"pdfminer-six","purl":"pkg:pypi/pdfminer-six","ranges":["<20251107"],"fixed":["20251107"]}]}],"attribution":["This product uses the NVD API but is not endorsed or certified by the NVD.","EPSS scores: FIRST Exploit Prediction Scoring System, https://www.first.org/epss","Known exploited vulnerabilities: CISA Known Exploited Vulnerabilities Catalog, https://www.cisa.gov/known-exploited-vulnerabilities-catalog","Package advisories: OSV (https://osv.dev), from the GitHub Advisory Database, PyPA, Go, RustSec and other ecosystem databases, under CC-BY 4.0 or CC0","CVE records: the CVE Program's CVE List (https://www.cve.org), under its terms of use (https://www.cve.org/Legal/TermsOfUse).
