{"cve":"CVE-2025-64507","nvd":{"published":"2025-11-10T22:15:39.460","modified":"2026-06-17T09:54:29.040","status":"Analyzed","description":"Incus is a system container and virtual machine manager. An issue in versions prior to 6.0.6 and 6.19.0 affects any Incus user in an environment where an unprivileged user may have root access to a container with an attached custom storage volume that has the `security.shifted` property set to `true` as well as access to the host as an unprivileged user. The most common case for this would be systems using `incus-user` with the less privileged `incus` group to provide unprivileged users with an isolated restricted access to Incus. Such users may be able to create a custom storage volume with the necessary property (depending on kernel and filesystem support) and can then write a setuid binary from within the container which can be executed as an unprivileged user on the host to gain root privileges. A patch for this issue is expected in versions 6.0.6 and 6.19.0. As a workaround, permissions can be manually restricted until a patched version of Incus is deployed.","cvss_v4":{"vector":"CVSS:4.0/AV:L/AC:L/AT:N/PR:N/UI:N/VC:H/VI:H/VA:H/SC:N/SI:N/SA:N","score":8.6},"cvss_v3":{"version":"3.1","vector":"CVSS:3.1/AV:L/AC:L/PR:L/UI:N/S:U/C:H/I:H/A:H","score":7.8},"cwes":["CWE-269"],"references":["https://github.com/lxc/incus/issues/2641","https://github.com/lxc/incus/pull/2642","https://github.com/lxc/incus/security/advisories/GHSA-56mx-8g9f-5crf","https://github.com/lxc/incus/issues/2641"],"products":["linuxcontainers:incus"],"source":"nvd","synced_at":"2026-10-19T22:14:53.307938015+00:00"},"epss":{"cve":"CVE-2025-64507","score":0.00178,"percentile":0.07382,"date":"2026-10-31"},"kev":null,"osv":[{"id":"GHSA-56mx-8g9f-5crf","url":"https://osv.dev/vulnerability/GHSA-56mx-8g9f-5crf","summary":"Incus vulnerable to local privilege escalation through custom storage volumes","modified":"2026-03-30T14:06:52.464013Z","packages":[{"ecosystem":"Go","name":"github.com/lxc/incus/v6","purl":"pkg:golang/github.com/lxc/incus/v6","ranges":["<6.19.0"],"fixed":["6.19.0"]}]},{"id":"GO-2025-4115","url":"https://osv.dev/vulnerability/GO-2025-4115","summary":"Incus vulnerable to local privilege escalation through custom storage volumes in github.com/lxc/incus","modified":"2026-03-03T04:57:36.419869Z","packages":[{"ecosystem":"Go","name":"github.com/lxc/incus","purl":"pkg:golang/github.com/lxc/incus","ranges":["all versions"],"fixed":[]},{"ecosystem":"Go","name":"github.com/lxc/incus/v6","purl":"pkg:golang/github.com/lxc/incus/v6","ranges":[">=6.1.0"],"fixed":[]}]}],"attribution":["This product uses the NVD API but is not endorsed or certified by the NVD.","EPSS scores: FIRST Exploit Prediction Scoring System, https://www.first.org/epss","Known exploited vulnerabilities: CISA Known Exploited Vulnerabilities Catalog, https://www.cisa.gov/known-exploited-vulnerabilities-catalog","Package advisories: OSV (https://osv.dev), from the GitHub Advisory Database, PyPA, Go, RustSec and other ecosystem databases, under CC-BY 4.0 or CC0","CVE records: the CVE Program's CVE List (https://www.cve.org), under its terms of use (https://www.cve.org/Legal/TermsOfUse).
