{"cve":"CVE-2025-64437","nvd":{"published":"2025-11-07T23:15:46.147","modified":"2026-06-17T09:54:23.047","status":"Analyzed","description":"KubeVirt is a virtual machine management add-on for Kubernetes. In versions before 1.5.3 and 1.6.1, the virt-handler does not verify whether the launcher-sock is a symlink or a regular file. This oversight can be exploited, for example, to change the ownership of arbitrary files on the host node to the unprivileged user with UID 107 (the same user used by virt-launcher) thus, compromising the CIA (Confidentiality, Integrity and Availability) of data on the host. To successfully exploit this vulnerability, an attacker should be in control of the file system of the virt-launcher pod. This vulnerability is fixed in 1.5.3 and 1.6.1.","cvss_v4":null,"cvss_v3":{"version":"3.1","vector":"CVSS:3.1/AV:L/AC:H/PR:H/UI:N/S:C/C:L/I:L/A:L","score":5.0},"cwes":["CWE-59"],"references":["https://github.com/kubevirt/kubevirt/commit/3ce9f41c54d04a65f10b23a46771391c00659afb","https://github.com/kubevirt/kubevirt/commit/8644dbe0d04784b0bfa8395b91ecbd6001f88f6b","https://github.com/kubevirt/kubevirt/commit/f59ca63133f25de8fceb3e2a0e5cc0b7bdb6a265","https://github.com/kubevirt/kubevirt/security/advisories/GHSA-2r4r-5x78-mvqf"],"products":["kubevirt:kubevirt"],"source":"nvd","synced_at":"2026-10-19T22:14:53.307938015+00:00"},"epss":{"cve":"CVE-2025-64437","score":0.00231,"percentile":0.13955,"date":"2026-10-31"},"kev":null,"osv":[{"id":"GHSA-2r4r-5x78-mvqf","url":"https://osv.dev/vulnerability/GHSA-2r4r-5x78-mvqf","summary":"KubeVirt Isolation Detection Flaw Allows Arbitrary File Permission Changes","modified":"2026-09-10T03:50:30.376275294Z","packages":[{"ecosystem":"Go","name":"kubevirt.io/kubevirt","purl":"pkg:golang/kubevirt.io/kubevirt","ranges":["<1.5.3"],"fixed":["1.5.3"]},{"ecosystem":"Go","name":"kubevirt.io/kubevirt","purl":"pkg:golang/kubevirt.io/kubevirt","ranges":[">=1.6.0-alpha.0 <1.6.1"],"fixed":["1.6.1"]}]},{"id":"GO-2025-4102","url":"https://osv.dev/vulnerability/GO-2025-4102","summary":"KubeVirt Isolation Detection Flaw Allows Arbitrary File Permission Changes in kubevirt.io/kubevirt","modified":"2026-03-25T20:42:33.469930Z","packages":[{"ecosystem":"Go","name":"kubevirt.io/kubevirt","purl":"pkg:golang/kubevirt.io/kubevirt","ranges":["<1.5.3",">=1.6.0-alpha.0 <1.6.0-beta.0.0.20250801202148-3ce9f41c54d0"],"fixed":["1.5.3","1.6.0-beta.0.0.20250801202148-3ce9f41c54d0"]}]}],"attribution":["This product uses the NVD API but is not endorsed or certified by the NVD.","EPSS scores: FIRST Exploit Prediction Scoring System, https://www.first.org/epss","Known exploited vulnerabilities: CISA Known Exploited Vulnerabilities Catalog, https://www.cisa.gov/known-exploited-vulnerabilities-catalog","Package advisories: OSV (https://osv.dev), from the GitHub Advisory Database, PyPA, Go, RustSec and other ecosystem databases, under CC-BY 4.0 or CC0","CVE records: the CVE Program's CVE List (https://www.cve.org), under its terms of use (https://www.cve.org/Legal/TermsOfUse).
