Prior to version 3.2.0, server names containing shell metacharacters (e.g., &) can cause command injection on Windows when passed to fastmcp install claude-code or fastmcp install gemini-cli. These install paths use subprocess.run() with a list argument, but on Windows the target CLIs often resolve to .cmd wrappers that are executed through cmd.exe, which interprets metacharacters in the flattened command string. This issue has been patched in version 3.2.0.","cvss_v4":null,"cvss_v3":{"version":"3.1","vector":"CVSS:3.1/AV:L/AC:L/PR:N/UI:R/S:U/C:H/I:H/A:H","score":7.8},"cwes":["CWE-78"],"references":["https://github.com/PrefectHQ/fastmcp/pull/3522","https://github.com/PrefectHQ/fastmcp/security/advisories/GHSA-m8x7-r2rg-vh5g","https://github.com/PrefectHQ/fastmcp/security/advisories/GHSA-m8x7-r2rg-vh5g"],"products":["jlowin:fastmcp"],"source":"nvd","synced_at":"2026-10-19T22:28:59.047572785+00:00"},"epss":{"cve":"CVE-2025-64340","score":0.00748,"percentile":0.54901,"date":"2026-10-31"},"kev":null,"osv":[{"id":"GHSA-m8x7-r2rg-vh5g","url":"https://osv.dev/vulnerability/GHSA-m8x7-r2rg-vh5g","summary":"FastMCP has a Command Injection vulnerability - Gemini CLI","modified":"2026-09-10T03:51:00.538174997Z","packages":[{"ecosystem":"PyPI","name":"fastmcp","purl":"pkg:pypi/fastmcp","ranges":["<3.2.0"],"fixed":["3.2.0"]}]},{"id":"PYSEC-2026-2475","url":"https://osv.dev/vulnerability/PYSEC-2026-2475","summary":"FastMCP has a Command Injection vulnerability - Gemini CLI","modified":"2026-07-13T16:31:55.161769253Z","packages":[{"ecosystem":"PyPI","name":"fastmcp","purl":"pkg:pypi/fastmcp","ranges":["<3.2.0"],"fixed":["3.2.0"]}]}],"attribution":["This product uses the NVD API but is not endorsed or certified by the NVD.","EPSS scores: FIRST Exploit Prediction Scoring System, https://www.first.org/epss","Known exploited vulnerabilities: CISA Known Exploited Vulnerabilities Catalog, https://www.cisa.gov/known-exploited-vulnerabilities-catalog","Package advisories: OSV (https://osv.dev), from the GitHub Advisory Database, PyPA, Go, RustSec and other ecosystem databases, under CC-BY 4.0 or CC0","CVE records: the CVE Program's CVE List (https://www.cve.org), under its terms of use (https://www.cve.org/Legal/TermsOfUse).
