{"cve":"CVE-2025-64182","nvd":{"published":"2025-11-10T22:15:37.120","modified":"2026-06-17T09:53:58.280","status":"Analyzed","description":"OpenEXR provides the specification and reference implementation of the EXR file format, an image storage format for the motion picture industry. In versions 3.2.0 through 3.2.4, 3.3.0 through 3.3.5, and 3.4.0 through 3.4.2, a memory safety bug in the legacy OpenEXR Python adapter (the deprecated OpenEXR.InputFile wrapper) allow crashes and likely code execution when opening attacker-controlled EXR files or when passing crafted Python objects. Integer overflow and unchecked allocation in InputFile.channel() and InputFile.channels() can lead to heap overflow (32 bit) or a NULL deref (64 bit). Versions 3.2.5, 3.3.6, and 3.4.3 contain a patch for the issue.","cvss_v4":{"vector":"CVSS:4.0/AV:L/AC:L/AT:N/PR:N/UI:N/VC:N/VI:H/VA:H/SC:N/SI:N/SA:N/E:P","score":5.5},"cvss_v3":{"version":"3.1","vector":"CVSS:3.1/AV:L/AC:L/PR:N/UI:R/S:U/C:H/I:H/A:H","score":7.8},"cwes":["CWE-120"],"references":["https://github.com/AcademySoftwareFoundation/openexr/blob/b3a19903db0672c63055023aa788e592b16ec3c5/src/wrappers/python/PyOpenEXR_old.cpp#L528-L536","https://github.com/AcademySoftwareFoundation/openexr/security/advisories/GHSA-vh63-9mqx-wmjr","https://github.com/AcademySoftwareFoundation/openexr/security/advisories/GHSA-vh63-9mqx-wmjr"],"products":["openexr:openexr"],"source":"nvd","synced_at":"2026-10-19T22:14:53.307938015+00:00"},"epss":{"cve":"CVE-2025-64182","score":0.0026,"percentile":0.17779,"date":"2026-10-31"},"kev":null,"osv":[{"id":"GHSA-vh63-9mqx-wmjr","url":"https://osv.dev/vulnerability/GHSA-vh63-9mqx-wmjr","summary":"OpenEXR has buffer overflow in PyOpenEXR_old's channels() and channel()","modified":"2026-07-13T16:43:06.203816035Z","packages":[{"ecosystem":"PyPI","name":"openexr","purl":"pkg:pypi/openexr","ranges":[">=3.2.0 <3.2.5"],"fixed":["3.2.5"]},{"ecosystem":"PyPI","name":"openexr","purl":"pkg:pypi/openexr","ranges":[">=3.3.0 <3.3.6"],"fixed":["3.3.6"]},{"ecosystem":"PyPI","name":"openexr","purl":"pkg:pypi/openexr","ranges":[">=3.4.0 <3.4.3"],"fixed":["3.4.3"]}]},{"id":"PYSEC-2026-2851","url":"https://osv.dev/vulnerability/PYSEC-2026-2851","summary":"OpenEXR has buffer overflow in PyOpenEXR_old's channels() and channel()","modified":"2026-07-13T16:32:33.835246408Z","packages":[{"ecosystem":"PyPI","name":"openexr","purl":"pkg:pypi/openexr","ranges":[">=3.2.0 <3.2.5",">=3.3.0 <3.3.6",">=3.4.0 <3.4.3"],"fixed":["3.2.5","3.3.6","3.4.3"]}]}],"attribution":["This product uses the NVD API but is not endorsed or certified by the NVD.","EPSS scores: FIRST Exploit Prediction Scoring System, https://www.first.org/epss","Known exploited vulnerabilities: CISA Known Exploited Vulnerabilities Catalog, https://www.cisa.gov/known-exploited-vulnerabilities-catalog","Package advisories: OSV (https://osv.dev), from the GitHub Advisory Database, PyPA, Go, RustSec and other ecosystem databases, under CC-BY 4.0 or CC0","CVE records: the CVE Program's CVE List (https://www.cve.org), under its terms of use (https://www.cve.org/Legal/TermsOfUse).
